I know of at least one school where the pep band only plays the national anthem and the fight song, the rest of the night all that is played is music over the loudspeakers and the band members just sit there.

I know everyone generally comes to the games - to watch the games.... but I think it's good to allow the pepbands to showcase their talents as well. I admit I'd rather hear a pepband than loudspeaker...tho my reasons are that I usually recognize the band music and sometimes can music is blaring over the speakers so much that I leave with a headache. Maybe that's just showing my age...lol

This is a topic where you don't get a consensus. Many people like to sit and visit with others in the community, and the band or music over the speakers are so loud you can't talk.
Some like band music, but I think your asking alot of a pep band to commit to 11 home games, and some schools now due to equality, want to include the girls games, so that's 22 home games. And believe it or not, many of the kids in the pep band would rather be regular students and sit in the regular stands.
Personally, I can be just fine without any of it. I go to watch the game, but I'm weird.

But the players make the 4 month in season 22 game commitment, though a commitment, pep band is only 11 games, and they are all home games and a lot of times they come out toward the end of the JV game and leave during the 3rd/ 4th quarter of the varsity. Much less time commitment than say, the marching band at football games.

I second that. Archbold has a great pep band and is probably the best I've heard in the area. Personally I prefer the regular music but that might be because I've heard some truly awful pep bands lol
