Went to an OSU and Northwestern game in football. At a set time all the Northwestern students held up their car keys in refernce to OSU students getting their car for them. SO DISRESPECTFUL :sarcasm: I think its funny when papers are held up by students etc. Sounds like alot of you faint of heart could never handle the stuff done at WBL games over the last 30 years. Write letters to the editor about important life issues.

LJ

Sure at college games that's all cool considering they are adults, paying their own bills and living on their own they can do what they want. But this is high school. Gotta show some respect.

WOW!! I find it unbelievable how so many people are so quick to throw DSJ under the bus - and for ANY reason at all! Mr. Collin Buettner should probably have all the facts before he condemns DSJ. You see, I was at the DSJ/Ottoville game and can tell you that - Yes- some Ottoville fans were told to take their boxing props to their cars and then come back in. They still wore the shirts they made (with the DSJ girl's name on them) although it was frowned upon. Honestly it appeared that these kids were just trying to add fuel to a fire that was none of their business. Some of those kids were wreaking of alcohol and shooting their mouths off so much that IMO the removal of the boxing props was best for everyone.

I was also present for the DSJ/New Bremen game. It was a completely packed, fun atmosphere and both student sections came to cheer on their teams..and did it well! FYI - way before the game started - when the DSJ players ran onto the floor to warm up - the New Bremen students all faced the wall. The DSJ students thought that was funny and then ran to the nearby study hall area and grabbed the newspapers to use during the starting line-up. While DSJ was announced, NB once again faced the wall. Both student sections were just having fun with each other and I didn't hear anyone complaining about any of it. None of this was done out of disrespect...just having some good ole clean fun!

And you have proof of these kids smelling like alcohol? lol Funny how you criticize someone of what they wrote and then you go ahead to say something like this?

Some of you people are soooo sensitive. Doesn't take much to hurt your feelings or offend you, does it? I've honestly never seen anything done by students at a basketball game that offended me. What's next? Are you going to complain because the opposing fans aren't cheering for your team? Are you going to demand that all students sit down and be still at all games? I really hate the term "wussification" of America but if there is such a thing, this is a perfect example of it.

It's interesting that the author of this letter not only did not attend the game but is not a fan of either team participating in the game. Perhaps he has an ax to grind and was just looking for a way to tell everyone.

Yes I have proof...it was a group of 4 or 5 boys and they were standing right by me in the hallway - yelling about how unfair it was that the props had to be put away (tho I wont repeat their exact words since it wasn't pretty)- I finally got even closer to them and quietly told them to calm down- this wasn't the place to act that way. I nearly fell over from the alcohol smell...honestly smelled like they bathed in it.

Mr. Buettner,

Thank you for being so quick to point out the newspaper trick at last Friday's game but being so kind to New Bremen and forgetting that they turned their back. Each action means nothing to me as I have seen it all done before in 3 states and 40 years of watching games. It must be nice to have so little to worry about in your life and have the spare time to complain about things that have no bearing on your life but then again your home address says it all. How about dedicating yourself to finding out why your high school has struggled this season to have enough boys to play varsity games. You have a strong, young coach who is an alumni of that school and yet the boys left in droves. I guess rules and dedication are a bad thing when there is only so much time to party. At least the girls program is taken seriously and has had a great season. Kind regards and the Lima News would like you to use a sharper crayon the next time.

Good try but everything you said there is far from what is proof. Maybe you should've turned them in. Haha

Bobby I think you are kind of missing the point. I agree some people can be a little sensitive and my take on this is if one school wants to act a certain way during games then so be it. It will be the school that gets judged through their actions in the end.

Ease up, FM being a dsj fan would know the smell of alcohol and would never turn in a student for drinking.

Mysterio... It was reported actually...and I wasn't the first person who noticed/reported it. I know kids will be kids...some drink - whether they're old enough or not....the only reason why I reported it at all was so that their AD was aware of the situation - because of the way they were acting....just wanted to stop trouble before it started. I don't know if anything was ever said to them and I don't care....I know they were being watched and that's good enough for me.

Then let the judging begin. All schools are under alert that anything and everything you do, say, think, etc... will be put under a microscope for "offensiveness". Nothing can be too small or mundane to escape scrutiny. The self appointed thought police are watching you.

I'm not missing the point at all. Someone with an ax to grind manufactures a controversy out of something that's decidedly non-controversial. If something like this offends you, I don't know how you get through a day, or even an hour, without being offended to death.

It is interesting, though, that the school that should supposedly have been so offended was not offended at all. No one from New Bremen thought anything of it. The "newspaper thing" has been going on for 40+ years. In the100's if not 1,000's times it's been done I doubt more than a handful of people were offended.

After reading the editorial in today's Lima News, I say kudos to Mr. Buettner for his comments. For some reason, DSJ is held to different standards when it comes to playing sports . Is it because they are a catholic school? If so, I say hogwash! Those kids are no different than any other kid and they should be held to the same standards. If that was my daughter out there slugging it out on the BB court, she would have been benched. And I don't mean sitting on bench in full dress uniform, I mean she would be sitting on the bench beside me watching the games. So glad our girls don't have to "box" with DSJ. It would be a shame to show up thinking we are going to play BB and end up in a boxing match.

lmao.......oh brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you seldom agree with much I say, but I did have a little chuckle when I saw the word 'wussification'.......I have stated a long time ago that we are becoming a nation of 'wussies'......good to see we agree on one thing!!!!!
