D4 at Kenton WG(2) vs USV HN gets Ada(1)/Ridgemont winner

I have a stupid question, being a retired teacher, I always said there are no stupid questions. If Ottoville is the no. #1 seed why would they play in the first round? Is that the coach's choice? Thanks....

Yep, Von, that is exactly it.

There are pros and cons each way when deciding whether to play or take a bye. Sometimes a coach may feel there's too much time between the last regular season game and a sectional final, and they don't want their team getting too "stale." They want to keep their team in a normal routine.

Of course, there's always an injury risk in playing a first round game, so other coaches may choose a bye.

The 1 seed puts their team anywhere in the bracket they want, and the 2 seed goes anywhere in the opposite side from the 1. And so on, down the line. Often, the 3 and/or 4 seeds (possibly even further down) will get the byes.

That and I think also that they would have a 10 day off period until their first actual tournament game. I don't see a problem with playing the first game. Although you can look at it a couple of different ways as to whether it can help or hurt you, but I don't blame the coach for taking the first game.

Coldwater division 4 sectional:
Marion Local vs. St. Henry..
-winner plays #1 seed New Knoxville
Minster vs. New Bremen..
-winner plays #2 seed Fort Recovery

I saw on Twitter that Minster was actually the #2 seed. Intersting to see Nann take a first-round game.

I think, especially in the the first round, there is such a gap between the good teams and bad, that coaches don't mind playing that first game against an inferrior opponent. It allows their kids to stay in a routine, get their feet wet in the tournament athmosphere, then they are ready to go for the sectional final. Too many times in the past, you saw teams take that 10-12 days off, and come out flat in that sectional final game and not recover in time to win the game.

What do they say? There are no stupid questions, just stupid people asking questions..... (joke) Coach Dan English of the great Fairview teams of the 80's and 90's never took a first round bye. He always wanted to get the tournament butterflies out early against a lesser opponent.

I am surprised that Arcadia got the 2 seed and New Reigel got 1 seed. Carey now sits in the 3 seed and will most likely play NR in round 2.

After playing both teams, I would say Arcadia should be the most feared team and worthy of the 1 seed. I just can't see how NR would match up with them and I am thinking they play in regular season sometime soon - don' they?

Regardless, a very tough sectional when every team in that sectional has a winning record. Someone is going home early.

Post I am a bit surprised to I thought Carey would be 2 and Arcadia 3 seed. Carey and Arcadia same record but Carey won head to head matchup. So that means Carey chose to be in N-R bracket interesting.

Honestly on paper it looks tough but some of them teams I question their schedule difficulty. Arcadia barely beat a PG team that finished 4th in the PCL but lost to Leipsic who finished 5th. When it comes to regionals they are going to find out how tough Crestview or Ottoville is (who I think are the 2 best teams in that regional tournament.

I agree, went to the Leipsic game Saturday Night and thought their guards played exceptionally well despite not having Kaufman anymore. I think the only team in that regional that can beat them is Crestview.

How can you call PG 4th and Leipsic 5th in the PCL when there are four teams that all have two league losses: Leipsic, PG, Kalida, and Continental.

Ottoville will win it all this year despite losing Kaufman IMO. They deserve it and I hope they pull it off. I still remember our regional semi-final game like it was yesterday. 2 great teams slugging it out - couldn't believe how big and strong Ottoville was but somehow we pulled it out in what was the best crowd i have ever been part of. They were packed to the rafters.

Post player, I hope you are right. When you get to the regionals and the state, things change. I would worry about FLar., Crestview, and if they get that far Berlin- H. Go Green...

I saw Marion Local play last week. They looked really good and they're relatively young. I think they have maybe 6 losses but this team could make some noise in the tournament.

I think them and Arcadia both. But out of their sectional they are the two best teams IMO. Carey can make their case too.

Looking ahead it seems like that sectional will have the easiest road to the regional finals in the Elida regional. Looking at, for example Ottoville, Crestview, and Patrick Henry. All 3 of those teams have to get through each other before getting to the regional final.

Interesting that DSJ would chose to go against Crestview because of a fight....but again I guess they figured they would face Crestivew eventually.....

In this region, I feel this is how the teams stack up:
1.)Ottoville
2.)Convoy Crestview
3.)everyone else
