Another question I'd have for the community is why can't some of these kids that don't play football suit up on Friday nights? I always laugh because it seems Vanlue has 20-25 kids out for basketball, a sport that only requires 5 kids to play, and 15 for football, a sport that requires 11??
Playing time? You'd get all the playing time you want in football. Some of the kids that sit on the bench in basketball never see the floor.
I guess i just don't know how a kid could go to the game on Friday nights in the fall, watch their classmates get pounded week after week, and not feel any guilt for not playing?

My guess is once again Vanlue would have no interest. There's a lot of consolidation that could go on in NW Ohio.

Lakota just built a grand new school, why arent Bettsville kids shuttered there?

The NWCC has sent requests letters to Hardin Northern in the past and was rejected. Maybe they will reconsider....

word is that HN voted to play a full varsity schedule in 2013. . . . Some freshmen are saying they're not playing BC of this.

So the question is......... Do you play varsity just to please your upper classmen or do you play JV to help build the program back up?

You play varsity to satisfy your league commitment or drop out of the league until you get it together again.

So what does that mean?

It was stated that HN only had 20 kids that wanted to play.....

If those freshman don't play, does that mean the roster is down to 15 or something like that? How on earth do they make it through a Varsity schedule with 15 kids?

If I was the other schools in the BVC, I would have real doubts that HN could even complete the season with less than 20 players.

But then, Vanlue is in the same boat with 17, I guess.

Do you have to field a varsity football team to remain in the BVC? I don't know for sure so I'm just asking.

They don't have any "non-football" schools in the BVC. The MAL does. I'm not sure you would "have to", but why would the rest of the league want you if you don't? Creates an odd number for scheduling in football, and puts the BVC in a bad position.

But apparently, they are going to try and make it through the season somehow.

What a Joke! Maybe its time the BVC schools treat HN in football like Carey did to Bettsville. 98-9 every friday night. The HN administration even admitted they could not compete without injury with the top half of the league and cannot win in the bottom half either. This decision is bad for the BVC, especially any team that is of playoff caliber. The HN-Vanlue-Arcadia is just a lost week of good teams trying to get better.

I kind of agree with this. But, splitting the conference and adding Hopewell-Loudon will strengthen the BVC scehdule and depending on which division you get into, the top BVC teams will be able to drop either (HN and RKD) or (North Balt and Vanlue) from their schedules. This will allow teams like LB, Arl, McComb and Leipsic to go out and get two stronger games on their schedule. IE, ...LB has already added Wynford and Hopewell Loudon and will have another open game to pick up a team much stronger than NB or Vanlue .

But to your point Buckshot.....you will still have to play 2 of the 4 weeker teams in the area.

You're right Blue Tiger. 2014 will be a better schedule, but this fall will be ugly.

HL has their schedule out and it has both Vanlue and NB on it.

That is correct. But it should not have CR, HN nor Arcadia.

The problem is these things are done so slowly. HN and Vanlue should make a commitment NOW for the 2013 season. It will be June/ July and they'll say we have 18 kids out...AGAIN. I think the league needs to put a 20 player minimum by February 1 for the following season. It's time to stop messing around with these programs. If the adults at these schools won't do what's best for the kids, they need to have those decisions made for them. Put Hardin Northern and Vanlue in the league with Ridgemont/ USV and LET them have a chance to win some games. Allow the other BVC teams to schedule some other teams that may actually make them better.

Agreed. The only thing I would change is it would be 25 kids, and by January 1. In my mind, if you can't at least fill out (theoretically) both sides of the ball, you are gonna have a bunch of freshman out there getting annihilated. And it ain't much of a game for the other side.

I've seen some small school teams be pretty competitive with low 30's numbers, but to me that is about as low as you can go realistically and sneak into the playoffs.

I wish there was a way to make something like that work, but 25 players in Feb doesn't mean 25 players in July/ August.

Looks like Pandora has NB, Vanlue and Arcadia, but two BVC games aren't on the schedule yet. Will they get HN too?

Those teams are in their division, HN is not. PG could schedule them as one of their open dates if HN doesn't end up being a "cross over" game with the other BVC division.

Can you provide a link to the schedule?
