First Off I am a Catholic, and I have attended other Faiths on ocassion as well. The reason I feel you should be Catholic is because they Celebrate differently then othe Religions, thereore it would be best to be Catholic or converting to attend there. I understand All mainstream Religions are after the same main goal. There are other opportunities besides Catholic Schools, Lima Temple Christain(Baptist), Toledo Christain are two that come to mind.

You can Not make All Catholics attend Catholic schools, because that would be basically forcing Religion on them.

I wouldn't say it's forcing religion on them when it's their religion to begin with. I think it's a stupid argument to begin with, but they could just be broke as dirt and can't afford the private costs.

Well my point is just because you are Catholic, does Not mean you have to attend a Catholic School. I don't think attending a Catholic School makes you anymore Catholic then if you don't.

Boys, I wasn't serious about that. It was just my ridiculous reply to your ridiculous notion that only Catholic kids should be allowed to attend Catholic schools.

What is ridiculous about it? I may not be quite that stringent, but you are operating a catholic based high school centered around catholicism? Why allow non-catholics or people unwilling to become catholic in to your institution if that is the case...outside of $$$ and bragging rights of course...which is ironic considering it goes against the principles of the religion to begin with. :D

Oh, you found us out. That's why we operate. Now where is that emoticon for rolling eyes??

Incidentally, we allow non-Catholics in our church as well.

It's pretty simple.....we believe in our faith, but running our schools is like running a private business.....key word here is private business.....not public supported......which also could be related to gov't supported!!!!!!

Then run it as a "Private" business and quit taking "Public" dollars in vouchers

Exactly....how they can the government justify sending public money to a private school when there is no representation? Public schools have School Boards that are accountable to the public and those people are elected.

Hound Dog......

We here in Delphos have a little bit different issue to contend with than many cities..........we at DSJ do not rely on public funds to keep our school open....as I stated before...check out our facilities...all paid for by our own....even built a new gym and training facility....we paid for it......but the funny thing is that we have 2 schools to support......so tax levies do make a difference for the other school in town...that being Jefferson........do you have any idea who supported the last tax levy, but still it did not pass.......now don't get me wrong here, but the public school needed that levy to go through....hell, I am sure that you and ADog know something about supporting public schools and levies........well, just to get to the point.......the catholics...of all people...those damn privates....supported that levy.....so, don't you, ADog, and ol 'Bucki' give me crap about vouchers....it just doesn't fly....at least not here in Delphos.......I even have some more facts, but feel they are not appropriate right now!!!!!

By the way........I voted for the levy....my wife is a Jeff grad.....but I still would have voted, because it is the right thing to do....I chose the private school, and therefore I made my own decision....but I still have a obligation to vote for the levy......now, if you, ADog, and Bucki want to argue this further than feel free......otherwise forget it and move on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flounder, I applaud you and others who have financed DSJ. My hat is off to you. I also applaud you for voting for the public levy. Now this is where we differ. You chose to send your kids to DSJ, so you should support it. You also CHOSE to be in Delphos City School District, so dont come back and say your tax dollars support a public school. They do but again you chose to live in that district and that is part of that choice. I should NOT however help support a private school ( and please people I do not hate privates) with tax dollars going to said private. The state board is so screwed up on how to run schools, i know another argument, but vouchers is NOT the answer. If a kid from say Lima Senior wanted to switch schools, fine, take that share of "public" dollars and chose another public school that offers a better education. There are what, 4, public schools that surround Lima City schools that offer better educational opportunities.Pick 1 of them. ( and again, I have no idea where those 4 schools stand on the standarizes testing)
You and others here ( and other chat boards I frequent) from private schools bemoan the fact that enrollment is dropping in a lot of private schools. I understand that...but do not use tax dollars to boost your enrollment.
I will be the 1st to say that throwing money at schools is not the answer to public education woes, but to take monies away is definitely not the answer.

I wasn't part of the public school system, so I don't know as much about it as most of you, but why is everyone under the impression that the way we fund public schools currently is the best way to do it? Personally, I think all schools should be run like a private school. All of the public schools should receive an automatic amount of money to cover overhead costs. Any variable costs related to a specific student should be assigned to that student's "voucher" and they can take that money and go to whatever school their parents see best fit.

I echo what Adog is saying. I have never had a beef with St.Johns. They are not the same as bigger city private schools.
