If things stay the way they are, there are presently enough seats at the new turf field. Won't have to worry about an overflow of fans.

Please do something for this program, seeing st.marys 0-10 isn't acceptable. I'm an outsider looking in!

Did St. Mary's ever finish their field? I went by it, but also noticed it's a bit detached from the school or appeared so. How does one manage to get back to it?

They didn't plan how to get back to the field.

Very poor decision by some on the school board at that time to waste money on the turf and expecting the community to just come up w/ the additional money for the rest. They could have easily renovated what they had for less than what they invested in the turf and had possibly one of the nicer stadiums in the WBL. They might have had enough to renovate and turf Skip Baughman. It's a shame.

So, I'm guessing it wasn't finished or what is the status of it?

Personally, it's pretty much moronic to build a stadium in this day and age without turf, so I can't fault them there. Now if they didn't have funding, that's a different can of worms in terms of starting the project.

Not close to finished... no funds! They have the turf and a track around it... There is a building at the north end but I'm not sure what it's function is.
Board figured the community would pony-up close to $2 million to finish the project or maybe that was including the turf... not sure. They, the board, wanted it on site but would not have all sports on site. Didn't make fiscal sense since they had a stadium that could have been renovated for much less and still very nice. They need lights , seating, restrooms, locker rooms, parking, etc...to finish. Some day it'll probably get done.

I'd say they are in a better spot than some others that have made the move. They have the most expensive part taken care of in putting the field and track down. Fiscally, most of these schools have to do it in stages. Now, I know they probably weren't trying to do that, but I believe Delphos's field(which isn't turf) is getting revamped in a 3 phase project. Lima Stadium ran into the same problem with funding and they didn't have a visitor's side for quite a while after getting their turf down.

Does anybody have any details or photos on what they are trying to build there in terms of seating and facilities? I don't know how that is accessible back there, but if there needs to be a paved section and/or large amount of concrete for facilities, obviously that makes things prohibitively more expensive. They should be alright in the long run though, but the team not fairing well lately obviously hurts in terms of sales/booster aid.

Not quite Jeffcat...Lima Stadium had turf a few years before the eastside stands were condemned. They then tore the east side out and yes it was a couple years with seating only on the west side before stands were installed on vistor side again. Somewhat similar situation , but at least this was not a "planning" issue like St Marys field.

The turf is the easiest part of the project... There is/was nothing there, no infrastructure what so ever. They are literally starting from scratch. There is no comparison between Lima Stadium and this mess...

I cannot for the life of me wrap myself around the fact that this program and this unfinished facility is in the mess it is in. How or even why do you build a facility put in field turf and just let it sit there unused because nobody had the foresite to raise funds to purchase or build bleachers or restrooms or concessions or lockerrooms is to me just unf---ing believeable!!! Did everybody in St. Marys all of the sudden become stupid at the same time? Man o man has this program falling off the face of the earth. It is a down right dirty shame with all the tradition that this program has had in the past that it has come to this. Isn't there any alumni that have played for St.Marys that has been successful in the business world that could not start the ball rolling to secure funding to finish this stadium? This whole story is almost like something that is make believe or a huge April Fools joke.

If i remember correctly the location of the new high school wasnt exactly a popular decision. Then to build a new stadium instead of renovating the present skip baughman stadium was even less popular. Hence its hard to raise funds for a project few people are supporting. But i agree there should of been enough foresight to make sure the funds would be there before starting a large project like that. I'd say someones agenda was put first (moving the stadium to eliminate the railroad track crowd) and has made a bad situation even worse. Especially to try to move it to a place where theres really no argument that is alot worse then the present location, especially parking, traffic flow in and out and distance of parking in relation to the field.

The field/track is probably the single most expensive part for them. It's not a matter of ease...I'm just saying it's taking out probably the biggest chunk of money they will spend in terms of funding issues depending on how much concrete they are going to blow through. I'm guessing the prep, turf, and track all together was well over the $1 million mark.

Looks like a pretty nice set up to me other than the concern of some bottlenecking in terms of traffic, but nothing severe. They do have quite a bit in terms of prep, concrete, and paving to do though. That will be some pretty significant dollars to finish with that setup. All in all though, it should be good to go in a few years.

They could just plant corn around the field and call it the field of dreams. Definitely a unique experience going out of bounds. :thumbup1:
