I actually think McComb matches up better for this game than they did against DSJ. Marion Local isn't that big or overpowering this year(although still young). With that being said, what they lost in strength from last year, they adjusted very well and gained in team speed and having playmakers in their small RBs and WRs that are very quick in the open field. They have some taller WRs as well that can get the ball. Bertke throws a pretty nice ball, but you can rattle him under pressure. Goodwin is an excellent coach and will let him audible under pressure to adjust to pressure though and burn you with screens and quick outs if you get too rush happy. McComb obviously will have to play better pass defense, but I'm sure their priority was on DSJ's power running game. ML doesn't have that this year, so McComb won't have to key on that as much. It still leaves them in a dilemma though, as ML has plenty of options to go around with quick backs still in their running and passing game.

Again.....I hit a nerve.....also, I meant this season...not over the course of your life.....you make it sound like you know these teams personally......scouting reports involve seeing a team play many times.....not over your life, but in one season....so, you see why I voice my concern over your synopsis of these 2 teams......I am not a troll, and I don't think my statement was out of line.......you see 'Bucki'....you do this all the time....ranting and raving how good or bad teams are, yet it is impossible for you to see all those teams you claim to see, because you would have to quit your day job.......and I am certain you would not do that because as you have stated times before....you are currently making well over six figures........man, this is way to easy!!!!!!

Well aside from DJ actually scrimmaging Marion Local this year, there is this fascinating invention called a television. You should ascertain one sometime. An even more astonishing thing for you might be a computer, but I don't want to overwhelm your mind with that just yet.

So I guess the two obvious questions are, how did ML lose to Versailles, and was the ML/ DSJ game as close as the 14-0 final score?

Yes. DSJ/ML was 7-0 for almost the whole game

As a Marion fan, this will be another tough game. I think we have improved more over this season than any other, but McComb will be a stiff test. I hope we play well and hard. Let the chips fall where they may.

Comfirmed for Wapak?? Sounds like the fans win in this game as well. I'm predicting another hard fought barn burner this weekend. These playoff games(McComb, DSJ, LB) have been awesome this year!

To say McComb matches up better with ML than DSJ is stupid. As a fan of McComb, their run defense is one of if not the best in the state. Their pass defense not so much. ML QB is a lot better than Boggs even though Boggs did fairly well against McComb given all his pressure. McComb will have to step up their game even more. IMO they have played lack luster in their three big games this year, and still have found a way to win. If they hit stride and play good for all four quarters they will win.

To say Boggs did "fairly well" is an understatement. He had like 230 yards passing, which is like 40% if what he had ALL YEAR. He did flat out great. McComb pass defense plays like they did against DSJ, they will get picked apart. Write it down.

Fair enough, but ML is the total opposite of ML from last year. That's not to shun them, but they are far more pass oriented and run with smaller backs. They can run, but it's not the power running game you are accustomed to, although their small players are their quickest and most elusive. McComb should be able to get some pressure on Bertke, but obviously you don't want to sit back and just get picked apart because ML can and will. The biggest fear McComb should have is having Bertke/Goodwin beat you with their heads, more so than their bodies. He is a smart QB that controls play calling and coached well and Goodwin milks that to his advantage as he should.

For what it's worth, ML's starting tailback is maybe an inch shorter and ten pounds lighter than last year's starter, and the fullback is about the same size as last year's starter. ML still runs the traps and tosses that they did last year, so not a lot has really changed with the running game.

ML's receivers are all new this year and not yet as polished as the two seniors that were there last year. That's not a knock on them, as I'm sure they'll continue to come around with experience.

The point is that ML hasn't changed much at all from last year. Though they started out the year in a four-wide spread, they've since gone back to mostly the I. Really the biggest difference that I've seen is that the QB will run the ball more this year - probably 10-15 times a game.

What games(besides the scrimmage) have you watched Marion play?Your info on Marion seems to be from earlier in the year.

In what has to be a first for the "Las Rocket's" Pick 'em Contest I have went against all conventional wisdom, historical data,
and common sense and instilled the McComb Panthers from the BVC as the favorite vs. a team from the Mighty MAC ;)

Come Saturday morning I might regret this decision and will have my inbox ready for all the hate mail if the defending state champions
do what many expect and that is to vanquish the Panthers.........my brain says MAC, my heart says BVC :hifive2:

Historical data shows me that McComb has only been this far one other time, when they won state. This team is different from EVERY single D6 team that has made playoffs from the BVC. Their offense has yet to click against a high caliber team and they still find ways to win. Two of DSJ's scores were drives that started close to or in McComb territory I believe, and the other one was a broken play and a few missed tackles. Look for the D line to get after the QB and the few defensive backfield adjustments to make a big difference in this game.

Sticking with my 35-21 prediction with the Flyers moving on to play for their second consecutive state championship.
