I am in Lima every day. It's not as bad as RM says......But if you are there at night, it doesn't hurt to keep your head on a swivel and your hamstrings loose just in case, lol

It's a lot safer now that the faster guys are all playing football now at LCC. ;)

LCC played a "tougher" schedule before they were in the NWC by playing the elite teams from the NWC and the elite teams from the MAC most of the time.....yet LCC was TERRIBLE during that time. Example #1.
Taking what you used as a example, LCC picked up a successful head coach who kew what it takes to win and they upset the big Giant In St.Henry(17-14) and they upset versailles in the first round of the playoffs. All im saying is this after years of getting your butt whooped you eventually get better if the players have the drive and motivation to get better, because they are tired of losing.

Crime happens in cities and urban areas. Ever heard of Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, Dayton? It's going to happen. Maybe not in your sheltered small communities.

Yeah it does they schedule the best which forced the athlete to get better and the coach to get better.

I grew up in Lima and am still there quite frequently. For what it's worth, I've never once feared for my safety while there.

Lima does have crime (as any city does), but it's mostly concentrated in a few small areas. I've never felt threatened at any of the places RM mentioned.

If you have athletes and coaches that don't do that on their own, then you better have your team check their prerogatives.

Of which, Lima is nowhere close to being as large as. Likewise, Lima's crime rates are spread throughout a larger percentage of area for more violent crime, as opposed to cities like Columbus, which has more petty crime in entirely safe areas with scattered areas of violent crime in Linden and the like.

My point is...you cannot compare places like Delphos, Ada and Columbus Grove to a city like Lima. No one with any common sense would walk in an urban or the downtown area at night. There are nice places and there are very rough places, but making the statement that all of Lima is a crime filled terrible place where people fear their life while eating a burger at kewpee..etc is ridiculous.

People walk into Columbus's downtown every night. :shrug2: I understand what you are saying, but at the same token, it's no surprise that Lima, Toledo, Youngstown, etc. have higher crime rates than other rural cities AND other major cities in the Midwest. I think that is what most people are referring to. Lima most definitely has a significant crime problem.

A large part of the reason for Lima, Toledo, and Youngstown having "less-safe" downtowns than other cities is that all three of these cities have government housing in the middle of downtown. It makes downtown less desirable, and, in turn, makes less people want to go downtown, which increases the safety problem. I would also throw Dayton in that mix. Cincinnati used to fit in this category, but they've done a good job of cleaning up downtown (such as getting rid of many of the "over the rhine" folk).

It's really more an issue of poor city planning than anything. Fortunately, it's not an incredibly difficult problem to fix. The tough part is getting someone with the cojones to p!$$ a bunch of people off for the good of the community.

Again, I've never felt threatened in Lima, but I've also never been one to frequent the South Side/Downtown/or the snake pit (no longer exists I know, just wanted reference it ha)

the majority of the crime in Lima is black on black. I hate saying that but its true. I told my mother about this thread today and she voiced what I have always thought, Met Housing is to blame for allot of the people that moved into Lima that are involved in drugs or bring it in. There are good people on Met that really need the help but theres also a large number that are abusing the system and Met Housing is not doing a thing to weed them out. Our Mayor is responsible for bring Met Housing into Allen County. We need a new Mayor very very badly! We need drug testing for walfare and Met Housing. Until that happens....Lima will get worse, but right now its nowhere near the area RM thinks it is.

Lima is dead in my opinion. While all of what you guys said is true, it ultimately comes down to a people and community deal, and Lima just doesn't have that, where as Columbus and currently Cincy is gaining. Without personal or community initiatives to get things going, nothing is ever going to occur and as low income and dead as Lima is in terms of business and just personal drive to initiate a change, I don't ever see that changing and expect the population to continue to drop as the years go on.

You gonna defend the classyness of Cooper flipping off our fanbase back in 2006? And you wonder why people think LCC is arrogant...
