I dont see the outrage in the 7th division. So one more team out of 700 get crowned as a State Champ. Big deal. 7 out of 700 is what 1%? Not a big deal in my book.

And who cares if more teams make the playoffs...the better teams are gonna go farther regardless.

I'm not exactly against it, but it's somewhat counterproductive on the small school side as it just consolidates small schools like DSJ, McComb, etc. and just keeps them together with even less competition in their way. I believe Ada(I could be wrong) might be D6 and possibly Marion Local, but I haven't checked lately. Even so, it just makes the road almost cupcakelike for D7 teams that could win in D7 with ease and probably D6 as well. The shakeup above that won't be quite as dramatic though, outside of a few notables in each division moving down. The bottom line is it makes small school ball almost more unfair and less competitive.

The best thing I could hope for out of it, is that when Ridgemont makes the D7 playoffs annually, that their program will eventually get more competitively.

Well, starting next season, you will be able to go down to Div 7........what a joke high school football playoffs have become in Ohio....and then we have a vote coming up to make private school a division of their own.......football in Ohio is ruined....way to watered down.....but hey, we want every team, whether they work hard or not to be a winner......what the hell has become of this state and country as a whole........oh, and next, let's put Obama back in office for another 4 years......that will be the real ball buster.....sorry guys...I am just venting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good grief. Using the addition of a 7th division in high school football as an example of the ruination of the country? And why do some people feel the need to insert politics into everything? We survived going from three classes to five, then six divisions and then from two teams per region to four and then eight. Somehow I think we'll survive this. I enjoy high school sports as much or more now than I did in high school.

Good grief....maybe you do, but we had a conversation somewhat close to this topic last night, and it was pretty evident that high school sports has really changed.........tell me something Bobby.....do you think the atmosphere is still the same at the Vatican as it was just 10 short years ago....if you answer yes, then you must be sitting there in your own little world...........and I really hope those D7 championships mean alot....sure, we will survive.....hell, you can almost survive anything, but most people feel that 7 divisions are to many.......especially when we only have 4 divisions in basketball yet have more basketball schools than football schools.....is that rational!!!!!!!!

Oh, and by the way.......the politics was entered to make a comparison.......sorry if it offended you!!!!!!

the only major shakeup in the whole deal is with larger schools. Those "small" DI schools want a better chance to win a state title. Lets face it all small schools still have a challenge to put 40-50 kids out for the team.Only a few DVI schools will stay DVI. Most will still fall under DVII

flounder, explain how you think high school sports has changed.

The Vatican atmosphere is different because the style of play in basketball has changed. Put a fun and exciting product on the floor and the gym will be packed. It's that way everywhere. Games that end up 43-39 aren't all that much fun. Change basketball from the brutish, slow game it's become to the skilled, entertaining game it was meant to be and the gyms will fill again.

A lot of people feel six or even five football divisions are too many. Some want to go back to three classes or go back to only 2 teams per region in the playoffs. Some feel that having six divisions and eight teams per region in the playoffs is a joke. I'm not the least bit embarrassed that our state titles were in Div VI. If we win a Div VII title, I'll be just as proud of that as I'm sure folks would be in Marion Local or anywhere else. Only about the biggest 10-12 teams in Div VI now will not be in Div VII.

In basketball 700+ teams get a chance to win a state title. In football it's only 192. If there were only four divisions in football, only 128 teams would have a chance to win a state title. That's a very small percentage.

And yes, I'm sick to death of politics in any form. I'm sick of it being shoved in my face every minute of every day on tv, the radio, the newspaper, online, etc... I'm sick of it being injected into every conversation. There are plenty of places to discuss politics, a high school sports forum is not one of them.

I will take private versus public divisions any day of the week but that's a whole other conversation...
Not sure about that, particularly if private schools are going to have their own playoff.

Back to region 22:
#3 Fremont St. Joe
#5 Delphos St. Johns
#6 Tiffin Calvert
#7 Toledo Christian
Currently #11, and could sneak in at #8 Norwalk St. Paul

Remember too that Div.VI lost quite a few playoff teams to Div. V two years ago ....H-L, Columbus Grove and Carey were all regulars out of Region 22. Schools are also shrinking - Calvert lost 30 boys off enrollment counts from two years ago.
Always a watchful eyes on those Tiffin Calvert Senecas, Marion Local Flyers, Fort Loramie Redskins , New Albany Eagles.

What does this "out of left field" comment have to do with anything?

The style of basketball has changed because we don't have the numbers or athletes.......your best percentage of winning is to play the style we are playing.......I disagree that is the reason why the atmosphere isn't the same as in the past!!!!!

The style of basketball has changed everywhere, not just at DSJ. It started in the NBA, probably with the Bad Boy Pistons, and filtered down to college and now high school. Basketball is no longer a skillful, free flowing game. It's thuggery! They play defense with their hands and forearms, not their feet. Read the scores on a Saturday morning and see how many games across the state are in the 40's and 50's and even 30's. In high school I remember the Lima News listing the top ten offensive teams in the area and they all averaged 70+ points per game. Kids aren't that different today, but the game is.

DSJ, and most other schools, has more than enough athletes to play fun basketball. We're not playing Dayton Dunbar, Toledo Central Catholic or Columbus East anymore. Unfortunately, basketball is not in a fun place right now.

Isn't it interesting how a topic on Div VI, Reg. 22 morphed into a discussion on high school basketball?

I think it's just pretty easy to say that DSJ just transitioned over from a basketball school to a football school.

#3 Fremont St. Joe faces an always tough Hopewell-Loudon team whos #14 in region 18 right now with a (4-2) record.

#5 Delphos St. John's faces Fort Recovery (3-3)

Tiffin Calvert and Toledo Christian are playing a couple of downers

And, #11 Norwalk St. Paul is playing (4-2) New London.

We might have to wait until week 9 or so to even get some kind of educated guess on the 5-6-7-8 spots and so on ..

McComb will come out on top at the end of the season due to the weakness in the BVC, but I see them struggling in the playoffs

I'm not sure if I'm sold that McComb is better than Leipsic. Either way, they make the playoffs.

I'll go out on a limb and say that McComb will win at least the 2 games in the playoffs, provided that they don't have any key injuries!!!!

I wouldn't disagree with you Panther. I have seen all the BVC teams except PG and HN and I think you have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. Granted I have seen most of them only once, but I was a Panther 'believer'. Good luck the rest of the season.

Weak bottom 5 yes. Extremely good top 3 yes. Then 2 teams in the middle that are so so. Don't know if the BVCis weak. I would expect at least 1 if not 2 wins in playoffs from the top 3. Could be more. Everyone said this last year and LB did ok and Leipsic had their opportunities to go to state who beat McComb.
