[Rocketman]

Well after 3 days with no power we now have liftoff! Lost over a dozen trees along with a small outbuildings.....shingles all over the yard. trees completely closing off the Riley downstream about half a mile..........chainsaw got quite the workout.....

How many options should they have? Spencerville isn't exactly a big town. If the Power was out it wouldn't matter how options they had.

how does that explain Bellefontain and Lima being hit and not Russells Point or Lakeview? The lake did have waves big enough to actually surf on but no damage was done to any trees around us at all. We didn't have a single leaf down in our yard at the lake and we're facing the West, yet our yard in Lima looked like fall and it too faces the west. We had over 15 bags of leaves when clean up was done with the front yard alone in Lima! And it had to have been more than 50 miles wide in Ft Wayne. It hit our in laws house in Cinci same time it hit our house in Lima!

My point was it would matter being in a small town because if you only have 1 or 2 stations in your town and 1 or both are out...it produces quite the problem when people panic and dive bomb the pumps and/or they are close to empty and can't make the drive to Lima or elsewhere. Delphos isn't large, and I heard they had quite the frenzy out at the Marathon station(the only open station at that time), especially with the inability to take credit/debit cards via electronic transfer. I heard they had to bust out the old manual sliders for the card people.

Hence why I said it increased in size rapidly. By the time it passed the Wabash/Ft Wayne area, it really wasn't that large. Once it crossed the border, it stretched out to an enormous size very rapidly. Hell, by the time it hit the Van Wert Area it was already covering from the Defiance area down to just northwest of Cinci. I can't comment on the Indian Lake area. I know a few people from there without power and similar damage so maybe that was just your scenario and you lucked out.

In one way right, in one way wrong. There were storms trailing it to the southwest at the time it hit Fort Wayne. What happened was those connected to the line, the spots where not much was going on filled in, and you ended up with one monster of a line.

Ottawa was hit pretty bad also, but with the issues we have had here with flooding, this was small time. You could buy things and still get where you wanted. No TV, A/C, etc. is a minor inconvenience compared to being stranded in a water logged home and not able to get out.......all residents could make the easy half hour drive to Findlay and get what they needed. Living out of a cooler and grilling every meal reminded me of my younger days spent at country concert and various camp grounds. Everything is up and running now, though.

Van Wert had no operating gas stations and people headed here for gas, as well.

Flooding? Isn't it a mega drought up in those parts? We only got about 1.5 in of rain in Columbus.

Those floods in Ottawa 5 years ago have me scared about this year. IIRC, it was the EXACT same set up that year. Extremely hot, dry summer through June and July. Then all of a sudden in August, BAM. About 10 days straight of heavy rain. As much as we need relief from this drought, I hope it doesn't come anywhere close to that.

Meh, I would take the rain. Ottawa need to do something about the river up there though as that seems to be a recurring threat annually.

My house sat in the dark from Fri to Tues. Thanks to another RCer we were able to stay at the nicest hotel ever on our "vacation" lol. The dust storm that hit bluffton on friday right before the rain is something I'll never forget.

Tell me about it. My place didn't even lose power very long and the AC is still on nonstop in this heat box. I'm glad the temps are going down tomorrow.
