I believe the initial commitment is 5 years. After the first five year period, I believe there is the customary 2 year notice to leave. There was info in one of the school's newsletters concerning the N10. I don't know if there is a fee, or what it would amount to. I also don't know if we have to meet that commitment if we left (to join the BVC) before the N10 starts (which is still a couple years away, I believe).
I have to wonder if Riverdale is really "bound" to joining the N10, and staying there for the first 5 years at this point. In all reality, a school can do whatever they want...they may just have to face consequences, if there are any. Regardless...even with a large fee, would the decreased mileage and larger gates make up for that in a few years???....I donno...
Things to consider even IF there has been a commitment.

The BVC did approach Riverdale about joining the league, but when given the cold shoulder who is to blame them not to beg/pursue them to please come to our league. If you ask a girl to prom and she blows you off, and you still pursue that is stalking.

Don't know why Riverdale would be such a great fit? As stated earlier, you need to show some interest, the league isn't going to fall all over itself inviting everyone around. The NWC is a pretty solid league, not sure why Ada andBluffton would want to move.
I don't get how people cannot understand the predicament that Riverdale was in. Had we given the N10 the "cold shoulder", just so we could send in a letter of interest, we could have very well been an independent in a couple of years. If the NCC was not disolving, I bet we would have sent a letter in. There would have been nothing to lose. The NCC is not going to exist in a couple years, and Riverdale needed something definite. The N10 was a definite, the BVC was just a gamble....AND...given the history of voting of BVC schools(the whole PCL/BVC thing, the "I'm afraid of change" thing, etc.), it seemed like a safe bet to follow the N10.
I still don't know the whole situation regarding Riverdale's official stance on joining the BVC. Maybe they wished they had sent the letter back...maybe not. I'd like for Riverdale to offer that stance to the district residents, and also to gather input from the residents on which conference would be in the best interest of our school (the N10 or the BVC). I would think that since the start of the N10 and the expansion of the BVC are both a couple years away, we'd have the ability to choose without any penalties. Maybe we could give our spot in the N10 to Calvert or Elgin...they'd both be nice fits.
