Elida to hire co-coaches for girls hoops program
May 15, 2012 2:39 PM
According to a press release, Elida will hire co-coaches for girls varsity basketball at tonight's board of education meeting. The coaches will be Chrissy Billiter and Elise Jenkins. Both played at Elida before Billiter played at Bowling Green while Jenkins played at Wittenberg.

Both also have coaching experience in other sports and around the Elida/Lima area.

For more on this story, check back or see Wednesday's Lima News Sports Section.

I just don't understand how this is going to work with co-coaches...

This won't work. Game time situations require quick, decisive moments from a coach. Not a "coin toss" if for example, 1 coach wants to play zone and the other man to man on an inbounds play.

Co coaches can work. Kettering Alter has been very successful with co-coaches over the last several years.

I see the situation as a head coach and a glorified assistant coach.

I agree Bearcat. I think this is a job where the head coach(es) need to supervise the program from top to bottom and maintain a tight leash. I think two coaches could do this better. Practices I think it could be efficient. My biggest question is the in game coaching. But you have to trust mr evans and his decision. He's a smart mind. I'm sure he knows what he is doing or liked the idea. If he didn't see it as a feasible idea it would not have happened.

I agree it seemed to me after Vicki Mauk died the program went downhill. I would think the two coaches would look at film of their opponent and come up with a game plan, there might be some compromising between the two at times. I agree that Mr Evans is a smart basketball mind, so I guess I should Not question his decision.

This is a easy out for the BOE. Lets just pickem both...that way we dont have to tell one of them no. How many apps did they have? We will never know the true answer.....2 maybe? Have these girls applied before?
One will rise to the top! Is 2 heads better than one?
Whose defense do they run?
Whose offense do they run?
Who stands.
Who sits.
Who is really in charge............
Who do we start this week?
Do they flip a coin? They cant always be on the same page..or can they.

It will be a learning curve for Elida.
I hope it works for them. Maybe they are on to something new there.

With all the problems in the football and basketball programs, Maybe this'll deflect a little criticism away from them.......I have to agree...2 Elida grads with A LOT of connections!....Better not to step on anyone's toes

I just hope it works out better than some of the other recent decisions made there.

Same old Elida administration. Too corned with the politics of the community and afraid to stand up and make the hard decisions.

Two head coaches is a terrible idea. It's like having two quarterbacks. When you have two, you actually have none. There are countless situations that are inevitable to arise when it comes to running a program and coaching a team that will make having two coaches a nightmare. This isn't a knock on either girl, but rather the administrators who make this terrible "in"decision.

I think we need to sit back and let the gals do their thing. It will take some time to get this program back on its feet. I would say the program started down hill after Sue left. She took them to regionals. Seems to me some of you just like to put Elida down. Good luck Coach Biliter and Coach Jenkins.
