It is difficult to be direct with upset posters asking a bunch of different questions and taking the conversation in many different directions. You have the luxury of carrying on one conversation...for you it s Hiland. You ask me to be direct...I oblige.
Hiland does not make it to state, let alone win it without Bonifant. I can't be more direct.
Arlington...did not use transfers. Arlington's traditional path was more difficult, therefore probably worthy of a bit more respect. This does not mean Hiland is bad, a bunch of cheats, etc. It means Arlington's path was more difficult than Hiland because Arlington did not have the good fortune of Bonfant falling into their lap.
I'd have to argue that given the fact that Hiland played their two toughest games in the District and Regional Finals would have given them as a tougher route to Columbus - that potentially the the two would balance each other out. And yes, I point that out only because its going to anger you

As for you being direct... I've never misunderstood you, trust me. You've said it loud and clear a zillion times. I've enjoyed watching you trip over yourself as you do it. And now I'm ready to move on. Enjoy your vacation.

Arlington's girls' BB team probably played their toughest game vs. Holgate in first game of Districts, and their next toughest opponent was the first game of Regionals vs. Ottoville. The Hiland girls may not have fared well enough to advance to State had they played either of those two teams.
What's your point?
The argument is not who played tougher teams, it is how these teams are made up, how a program builds "success", and how some schools somehow seem to land talent from outside of their district borders.
A school's athletic team should be representative of the district itself, NOT what the team can put together based on AAU alliances. It seems now-a-days that the "good" programs always find a way to get that certain missing position to fill the roster so their team can compete for championships when the majority of schools still work with what they have. To far too many people, this practice should be deemed as normal, or acceptable. This practice MAY be deemed as "fair" since most schools allow open enrollment, but how many teams have the luxury of attracting top talent to their teams?...very few...and it's known throughout the state who those very few teams are, because THEY are the ones who end up in the Regionals or State playing for the championships almost every year. People wouldn't make an issue out of it if there weren't some truth to it.
It's not an issue of fairness as much as an issue of what is the right thing to do...but it's still unfair from a competitiveness standpoint...especially on teams like Africentric or when Regina existed (I guess we will have to see how the school that has become their benefactor fares). When a school can have a collection of the top talent picked from a population over a million compete with schools where the population numbers in the lower thousands, THAT is unfair.
I've said it numerous times on here...this is NOT college, this is high school. Let the kids be kids, and let the school districts put their own kids on the floor or field. The recruitment process should be left to colleges and the pros...they have already messed sports up enough, let's not mess up high school sports. For my money, high school athletics is WAY more enjoyable to follow than either college or pro. I don't like the direction we're going in.

I said it as much as anything because I knew it was going to get dman going... and I'm better than that.
And while I'm not going to get into the right vs. wrong debate with you I will say that - like it or not and no matter how much you may fight it - this IS where basketball is going. For better or worse. It's where it has progressed. We as a school were forced to the other side of the fence whether we wanted it or not a few years ago.
And some day, you'll have no choice but to face the reality of it. You're school will have one, or your rivals, or your niece or nephew will find themselves in a situation where they decide they need to make a choice.
Progress is not always 100% positive. But one thing that it is is inevitable.

I get where you're coming from because we've been there. And I now know what it feels like to have an entire program and it's achievements be undermined and belittled because of something COMPLETELY out of its control.
Sure, .... you're a great kid. I know you and .... are really close and have played AAU together. But you see, all my guys, my 8 sophomores who's class you'd be joining? Well, they've worked really hard, too, and they have a chance to really put something toghether if you don't come in and muck up our reputation." (Yeah, Ok.)
Someday, you'll really understand without bias how ludicrous that idea would be because you've been there, and even more importantly, that the addition of this player doesn't mean short cuts for anyone else in the program.
All, I'm asking from my end is that the 99.9% of what is done RIGHT is given as much its due respect as some of you insist on villainizing a school for what you see them as doing WRONG. I'm sorry if I refuse to be be less proud of the kids I've seen grow up.
And feel free to go on saying, "no, no, no, no, no." You'll keep right on doing it until the day that you find yourself forced to see the other side of the picture, because at that point what's done is done.

You are taking this way to personal. You keep proving my point. I'm not sure you are even aware you are doing so. You asked for simplification and directness. You get it, and you are still lashing out.

The "tripping" is you overreacting and then apologizing for it. The fact you are so upset at me personally for stating a simple fact...is the humorous part I speak about. My comments are not directed at you personally. Rather the entire group of folks who defend/apologize/support the "new age" transfer reality as "inevitable." While I agree that these new methods are here to stay, there is a parallel "change" occurring that supporters of transfers refuse to accept. That "change" is in the "perception" of our champions. Flawed logic is the only explanation that allows one to embrace change conditionally. You cannot ask logical persons to accept changing methods while simultaneously ask that they endorse archaic accolade norms.
You are the most reasonable supporter/defender of transfers we have ever had on RC (to my recollection)...yet you yourself are overreacting. That is the "funny" part I speak of. I'm not above it. I'm certain that when/if Jefferson gets our "Bonifant" I will overreact and lash out and those who dare point out the truth about how my school obtained success. Reasonable people do unreasonable acts when they are too close to a situation.
Quote
This is another example of the overreaction I speak about. Nobody has made Hiland a villain. I've no doubt that you perceive somebody stating " Hiland does not make it to state, let alone win it without Bonifant" as an attack...but it is really a simple statement of reality. Also, Bonifant was a bit more than 0.1% of the causative agent in Hiland's last 2 championships. In your mind you want the 99.9% respect due a team who did not have the good fortune of Bonifant falling onto their lap. That is a silly expectation in these changing times. Since we must endorse the changing reality, and I do...it is time for supporters/defenders of "transfers" to reciprocate and quit expecting society to maintain traditional respect for non-traditional means.
Quote
If it was not a short-cut to two state championships...what would/should you call it?
Quote
Nobody has asked you to be less proud. You can cheer to your heart's desire. If it makes you feel better...I like watching Hiland play. I like their fans. I like their coaching. I absolutely love Bonifant as a player and would want him in my fox hole. None of this changes the reality...
- Hiland does not make it to state, let alone win it without Bonifant
Your concern is Hiland. I get that and respect that. I'm looking at the larger picture. What about the teams that worked every bit as hard as Hiland, but never got their Bonifant? Or in Elida's case. What about the teams and kids who followed the law, worked hard, but NEVER made it to Columbus because one school has very lax disciplinary standards? There is no perfect right and wrong. But your concern about those "poor Hiland boys" who are not getting their "traditional respect" pales in comparison to all the kids/communities/coaches/etc who have been royally screwed by these "changing societal norms." Looked at from this context, it is very difficult for the average fan to feel much sympathy for Hiland.
P.S. For those that care...Wherle's old coach who was one of the founding father's of "new age" transfer utilizations...is the guy on the sideline for Pickerington Central. The question I pose... In the big picture is the humane response to "feel bad" for Wherle/Pickerington "home growns" and their multiple state championships because society has not deeded them traditional accolade...? ...or might it be more befitting to save that limited emotion for all the kid's/communities Wherle/Pickerington rolled over on their journey's?
For me...the answer is simple. But I'll let you think about that one yourself...
