1. FF84 nailed it on post 233.
2. R-dale might be the most likely to garner the most support when it comes to votes. Hypothetical.... BVC member "XYZ" might be hesitant to vote for school "TTT" but would compromise with a vote for "TTT" if another was considered. Make sense?
3. Maybe a little birdie told me.

Don't be. Just follow the things Buckshot and bob22 are saying. Bob is intimating that there is a deal to accept a school like North Baltimore IF Riverdale goes along for the ride.
It will be interesting on that end. Hard to convince the bigger schools like L-B, Van Buren, McComb, etc. to go along with that. I personally think those bigger schools would rather have Calvert in for better competition across the board in athletics. In fact, recently heard that McComb and Calvert re-upped for their Week 1 football for next two years, and Vanlue is gonna play TC in boys basketball the next two years as well---L-B, Van Buren and McComb already play them in boys bball.
But you never know what will happen in these things. Between the Boards, Supers, Principals, and ADs, there is a lot of opinions to go around. And no one will have a complete answer until about the end of April. Probably decisions will be made right after the meetings are done.

1) Early reponses was Vanlue and Arlington were not in support. Add in the wild card of Arcadia (now they lost their coach and AD) and I can see why riverdale was nervous about expansion taking place.
2) In regards to the larger schools supporting a TC over NB, I think the majority of larger schools sould support either school and go along with the smaller schools wishes just to get the expansion in place.

First (and this may be reaching a bit), if they did not send a response, is this the same as saying "not interested"?...or could it be viewed as a neutral reaction? Riverdale has to cover its own bases regarding the demise of the NCC and the transition to the N10...so it is expected that we vote to join the N10. To send a reply to the BVC saying we are very interested in joining your league wouldn't bode well with the N10, would it? At the same time, the BVC has not extended any invitation to anybody yet...so it's not really an option at this point (just a "what if"). Next, I'm sure that there is a deadline for the N10 in order to begin play the first year, and also to give poper notice of our departure from the NCC. So to me, Riverdale had no other choice than to follow this procedure.
I really wonder beyond that, if Riverdale's intentions are eventual inclusion in the BVC. Who knows?...maybe there is some "behind the scenes" talking going on between the powers that be @ Riverdale and the BVC big-wigs...I don't know, but nothing surprises me anymore.
If the BVC decides to expand and does not invite Riverdale, we won't know. It's my belief that the questionaires were sent out to guage interest. If I'm the commisioner, and the league decides to expand, I'd not only have a list of schools that are showing interest, I'd also have a wish list of potential members. Hopefully the 2 lists would include the same schools. If they expand, the BVC will be both shopping AND selling themselves. I hope Riverdale is part of that wish list, and they at least try to give us a sales pitch.

Returning the letter would not solve all of their "problems" (I suppose you mean travel...I donno). Returning the letter does not get them into the BVC. An invitation, interview, and being voted in does. That's what all of this Riverdale talk has been about...not returning a letter.
As far as stability goes, the BVC could become less stable if Vanlue or Hardin Northern start dropping sports, leave the BVC or consolidate. I feel that is why expansion is even being EXPLORED...this is the key word.
Let's say Riverdale sends letter back to BVC saying "we're interested" and DOES NOT join the N10. If the BVC decides to stay as a 10-team conference, we're now a team without a conference...Bad decision.
Let's say Riverdale sends letter back to BVC saying "we're interested" and votes to join the N10. Maybe the other schools in the N10 see it as a half-hearted commitment. It doesn't look too good to do that.
The ball is in the BVC's court as it is...they ultimately call all the shots until actual invitations are sent out. I'd think if Riverdale was not interested in the BVC, they would have paid the postage and actually sent in a "NO". It's my understanding (from these posts on this thread) that Riverdale just did not return anything...neither a "yes" nor a "no".

I see what you are saying, but some things are not so easy in life. I think FF84 could be on to something. And if he is right, I am sure the BVC people know what's up.
Either Riverdale is happy with the N10 and are truly uninterested (though a letter would have been sent back), or they possibly have tricks up their sleeves.

No tricks. Most of the other schools in the surrounding area are not leaving their conference (except Carey, Mohawk, and Seneca East) and in a state of limbo like we are. We have to cover our bases before we can deal with "what ifs". Most other schools can say "we're interested", and if the expansion never happens, they are still cozy in their own little conference they currently reside in. Not necessarily the case for us.
How can people expect us (in our situation) to COMMIT to this, when the BVC hasn't even COMMITTED to the expansion. NONE of the schools that responded with interest are even committed to anything at this point. It's just a sign of interest.
The BVC should have an idea by the responses that they have received, if it makes sense for them to start inviting schools in or accepting applications...then it becomes something that is real instead of hypothetical. Let the BVC decide what direction they are going, and THEN we can talk about if we're out of the picture or not. If the BVC decides to expand, they will be sending the invitations or accepting applications. The Fat Lady hasn't even warmed up to sing at this point.

If the BVC can't understand our position, then that's a bit unprofessional, IMO.
I could be COMPLETELY WRONG on all of this, of course...
...but in my mind, I can't see where Riverdale wouldn't give SERIOUS thought to joining the BVC IF it was something that was a real possibility.
This whole thing is kind of like a catch-22...it's the perfect timing to jump from one conference to another, but if it falls through (without covering our backsides), it would be a disaster for us.
It will be fun to watch as if all unfolds.

This is what I meant by trick up the sleeve. Maybe that was a bad term to use. But I think it's possible that RIverdale talked to the BVC and said "we are interested if this moves forward, but it is in our best interest to not send a letter back in case nothing happens."

My only complaint is that this is 100% driven by LB for the betterment of their program. There are parts that I like about expansion, but if the only intent is to make sure LB has a legit shot at making playoffs in football without going undefeated, then I am not so sure I like it.
I say vote in Riverdale as a BVC member, and ask HN or Vanlue (or both) to enter the USV conference in football ONLY. That would allow for one or two out of league games (which would keep LB happy with looking for another DIII school to play not named Elida) and keep the integrity of the BVC. Riverdale should have been in this league for many years and is the best draw for the BVC in many ways.
It's time to do something cause the clock is ticking and teams that should be in our league can't wait forever.
