You are drinking the Kool-Aid if you think that LB has tremendous talent in their basketball program right now. Decent talent - yes. Above average talent - no. Williman would be the first to tell you that this team is not one of his better ones. Good skill players, but little athleticism and strength. Tough to win in games where you cannot match up physically against the opponent - a very simple reason why LB was never in the game against Arlington this year (with or without the sophomore).

Arlington is not overflowing with talent like many over there think. Did Recker BY FAR their best player get any college offers outside of a chance to play D3 at Bluffton or some other school that offers no scholarship?

Next year's game at LB. LB never plays well at Arlington even with talented teams from the past and Arlington rarely wins at LB.

Wow, I thought this thread was about Vanlue.

You Arlington and LB folks should meet at B-dubs to discuss your issues.

Back to Garber... take this for what's worth which is about zilch...
Talked to someone from Findlay area who says Garber's dad has residence in NB and that McComb's bball coach offered him a coaching position if his son came.
I didn't know this guy from Adam but he just started spewing. He also said that Akron StVStM also contacted Garber.... Probably read that here!!

Interesting that a few months ago a school was getting kicked out of its conference because of transfers. Now, in this conversation, the conversation isn't about whether this kid should transfer, but where. A poster commented that schools don't own kids and they should be free to go wherever they fit in best. Have attitudes changed that dramatically so quickly? Are transfers for sports just a way of life now that we should embrace?
At this point in the Div IV title game, Berlin Hiland's big time transfer has outscored Jackson Center 12-11 by himself. And no one seems to mind.
What if Garber ends up at LCC? Wpuld that be OK?

Most people and fans continue to ridicule the high school jock who wants to transfer..........until that jock transfers into their school district!!!!!!

It is really amazing and sad what HS sports have become. Kids and parents really don't get it.
Here we have two contrasting posts. I happen to agree with the second one. Flounder is right that people will basically shut up about the jock that comes to their school, but ridicule when the jock goes anywhere else.

WHAT ABOUT STAYING PUT??

If kids just went to school (you know the place you go for an EDUCATION) where they lived, we wouldn't have this mess (that's what it has become). If kids wouldn't transfer for selfish reasons...if parents weren't out to get their kid the spotlight, there wouldn't be this greed that exists by the coaches and fans like we see on here. We have people from Ada, L-B, Arlington, and even a mention that there is interest coming from Akron to have this kid come to THEIR school to play for them. Why?...you don't have enough talent of your own? Are you that greedy?

It wasn't too long ago that we would have never really thought about this. It wouldn't have been an issue. The kid would have still played where he lived, and would have just played for a different coach. It seems like NOTHING is out the question any more, and everything and anyone is fair game. I don't like it.

It's one thing to have a family move into a district that happens to have a talented child. It's another thing to have the mentality that this is like college and pros. It isn't...and it shouldn't be. This is high school. We need to let kids be kids. What's next? Should we start screening kids for athletic ability when they come into kindergarten? Maybe if they don't meet your school's "standards", you could suggest a personal trainer, or maybe even suggest they attend a different school. This has become crazy, IMO.

I mind Bobby. Any of the DIV IV teams, representing at Columbus, that got Bonifant was the team that wins state. That makes me sick. Hiland, like so many before them, will win state because they either got a lucky break...or they were brilliant recruiters. Either way...I'm of the opinion that the current parts and efforts required to win at Columbus are a poor reflection on the values high school sports currently represent.

Yet I'm still conflicted for this particular case. I'm not sure that a school administration that dismisses a good coach for no apparent reason is a school/place worthy of being a part of. Especially if one has options.

I know that I would want no part of such a disloyal faculty for me or my family.

The outrage should be directed at a superintendent and school board who have let apparent personality conflicts interfere with fair and decent judgment. Not at a kid who may, or may not choose to leave a situation with incompetent leadership.

That is the story. Vanlue has incompetent leadership. Back-stabbing incompetent poltical **-foot leadership. From the superintenent to the common voter...anybody who has sat by and allowed it to reach a point where a good coach is summarily dismissed without cause...should be ashamed.

Knowing this...how can I expect ANY kid to don a jersey that could righfully embarrass him?
I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

Explain to me why it's ok to leave a job for more money and benefits and it's not ok to leave a poor performing school athletically or academically? Success breeds success.
Don't give me BS about hard work or school/community pride because I don't buy it. People move for their benefit all the time. We are a mobile society... for better or worse.

It would appear that he is spending the weekend at the state tourney with representatives from a different team than mentioned.

I saw this yesterday in the Dip-n-Dots line. I think this team is in the BVC is it not?

I'm not believing the ASVSM rumor will pan out...........in the loges on Friday, this was dismissed as being more of a "wish list" for the Irish.......and I don't know if an
assistant coaching position at McComb would be all that enticing either, but if a supervisory position at the Cookie Factory would also be included that could clinch the deal.....

after reading Bubba's blog it says a lot about Vanlue.................you have had maybe 1 D1 athlete in school history and now they are running him off to "parts unknown".........if
I wouldn't know better I would think that this was PG......RM

Just to provide a little balance, back in the fall, there was a board meeting where relatives and friends of the coach went after the superintendent's job. The result? Board voted to renew his contract 4-1, I believe. Many teachers and staff in the district back the superintendent.
Now, here's my thought process. IF the superintendent can choose the basketball coach (I thought the AD recommended coaches to the board, but anyway) the last thing I'd do is tick off the superintendent. I'm not sure anyone can be shocked by this decision.
My guess is by basketball season next year, Garber will already have his decision made, his choice of colleges will come down to his AAU team and travel ball, not his high school career. I hope the kids stays at Vanlue and finishes his career with his friends and classmates, the way it should be.

I again suggest Mr. Consolidation would be the best route for this school system. This situation and my personal experiences with sports there make my option by far the only logical choice. Not one to like transfers, but in this case....KID RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN OUT OF THERE

It sure doesn't sound like the Super knows what he is doing but at the same time there is something about keeping your mouth shut and taking your medicine. I wasn't impressed that the coach chose to air his specific dirty laundry in public, including naming a couple other coaches that were on his side.
