OG's offense this year was predominately freshmen and sophs this year. 7 wins with a team this young isn't all that bad if you ask me. They improved ALOT from the start of the year to the end. I think there's plenty of talent, and I really think that if some people would step back, calm down for a second and see that, they'd realize that Coach Smith isn't doing all that bad of a job. This team just may need another year or so to mature enough to keep up with teams that are full of juniors and seniors.
RESPONSE:
Randy, 7 wins is not a successful year. You need to raise your expectations and not be so negative in front of the girls and they may play better. OG fans see good basketball every Friday and Saturday night and it's lacking on Thursday nights. How many years can you say it was a good year for a young squad? Eventually the coaching staff needs to treat the girls like human beings and maybe some of the girls would stay on the team for their Jr, and Sr. years.

the coach calling players p****** and a**holes and hitting players could be the problem
RESPONSE:
And don't forget "you're a loser"; "you cost us the game tonight by your play"; "you s*ck"; "you're terrible";"quit listening to your bast*rd parents". FACT-Many of these statements have been said to these young ladies over the years. They have been screamed four inches face to face for 20 to 30 minutes straight at times. These young ladies/adolescents have low self esteem issues after playing in this program for this coaching staff, Anyone they hire would be better for these young ladies, It's not about wins and losses anymore.

OG improved quite a bit from the start of the year until the end. With so many freshmen and sophs playing, I'd say a 7 win season is fairly successful. If the girls buy into what Coach Smith is saying.....and not what their parents are saying, they'll be fine.
RESPONSE:
Randy, If it was just coaching I don't think any parents would have any issues. But this coaching staff keeps trying to drive a wedge between the coaches and the parents. I've got news for you, most kids will choose their parents over their coaches any day. Especially when the coaching bad mouths the parents in front of them. Pay attention to the boys program and see how the parents and coaches work together. You may learn something.

I'm hearing there's a meeting tomorrow morning with returning players and Coach Smith. Sounds like some kind of decision is coming fairly soon. Sounds like the pressure from some disgruntled parents is beginning to take it's toll. Sad that parents who've been complaining about her since their kids were in 6th grade can run out a coach who's had quite a bit of success. I hope they're happy. It's tough to get a coach to step into a situation where the last coach gets run out by the parents of returning kids. Who would want to take on that kind of mess????
RESPONSE:
Randy, OG will have no problem finding a better person/coaching staff than what is currently in place.

Best post on this entire thread......why people don't realize that is beyond me. OG's freshmen boys would have gotten pounded if you'd have played 3 or 4 of them at a time in varsity games....even with a 6'6 kid playing center. The young girls were just overmatched in most games. To me 7 wins playing mostly 9th and 10th graders is about as much as you could realistically expect.
RESPONSE:
The freshmen and sophomore classes are very talented, Where are all of the Jrs. and Srs.? That's right, they were playing in the CYO State Tournament. Hopefully these freshmen and sophomores aren't playing CYO in the next 2 years. At least they're treated with civility in CYO.

well now I've heard it all. last night it was told that one of the parents has made some sort of a power point presentation that was viewed by the superintendent? and that he said that he will take this to the school board? here I thought all year when they were filming games that they were doing this to show colleges what type of player they were. seems to find out that they were filming the coach during the games to see what she was doing wrong. this seems crazy to me but I heard it from someone who actually viewed this power point thing. I don't have any idea why the coach would even want to stay with all the "support" she's getting from these parents. pitiful
RESPONSE:
It's about time. After several years of behavioral discussions from the AD for various incidents, maybe something will finally be done to correct this embarassing situation at OG. Everyone from OG and many people from opposing teams have walked out of many games shaking their heads because of the antics of this coaching staff.

I have never posted on this site and probably never will again, but I have been reading this thread since it started and am really getting sick of it. Whether Coach Smith stays or goes is not the point anymore. Personally, I think she would be crazy to continue to subject herself to the constant bashing by the so called "posse" and the disrespect their daughters show. Part of the "posse" parents have been the Jr High coaches and some continue to be as their younger daughters come through the jr high ranks. They have been asked repeatedly by the high school coaches to teach fundamental skills in Jr High and have repeatedly ignored this request. Yes they win, but it is because the girls are more developed and quicker at that age and can get steals for lay ups. If you have gone to any hs games, all of the young girls dribble right up the sideline instead of getting the ball to the middle. I was not at all surprised when I made my first visit to a Glandorf game, to see these girls do the same thing, head down right up the sideline. First of all, head up and 2nd get the ball to the middle. This is just one small example. Also, jr high girls that are viewed as less talented by these coaches are sitting out and watching one coach's daughter in a younger grade play in practice. This happened when the current jrs and seniors were there too and everyone wonders why they may not have developed. I am not saying this is the only reason they didn't develop, but who knows if they were given a chance what might have happened. The former coach at SPPS also ignored requests to teach fundementals and now is part of the posse. In fact , sources tell me that these coaches were heard when these girls were 6th graders at a local establishment trying to rally support of other 6th grade parents to fire Lori then. So, this has been building for several years because this crew has always coached their sweet little perfect division one athletes and they don't want anyone else to do it. In fact, the anonymous videographer is said to be one of these coaches and the power point editor is another!! How's that for support of a program at the younger levels. You wonder what has happened to Lady Titan Basketball, ask the esteemed Jr High coaches and their wives and puppet friends who also have daughters on the team!! I truly feel sorry for these girls. How can they be expected to perform when their parents have them in tears after the games rehashing every mistake they make. The 1 game I attended part of the "posse" had his JV daughter bawling in between games. The team won, but she didn't shoot enough and had too many turnovers! I heard him while I was waiting on popcorn! From what I hear these same people are taking aim on the OG volleyball program next followed by soccer. A friend of mine is associated with the volleyball program and said that a few of these same "posse" members repeatedly approached the coach last season about their daughters' playing time and status on the varsity, jv, or freshman team. Then last week I heard from a "posse" member that the OG soccer coach is next! Get a life people!
I recall several years ago, a group of baseball parents causing a similar stink(minus the power point presentation). The coach resigned in response. Now, a good number of parents are very dissatisfied with the current coaches. My point is, be careful what you wish for. It may smack you in the face later!!
RESPONSE:
Jayme, 1. The Jr, High coaching staff does a tremendous job of working on fundamentals and instilling the girls with winning attitudes. 2. This is the first year any of the High School coaches have ever been to any of the Jr, High practices, and they do teach fundamentals. If any of the coaches would go to watch a practice they would know this. 3. This is the 2nd, 3rd or 4th go around for many of these parents to have girls go through this program and they know what to expect. They don't want any more of their daughters to go through this circus. 4. If the HS coaching staff does not like girls dribbling up the sideline why don't they teach them to dribble the ball to the middle of the floor. The coaching and teaching should not stop once they're freshmen. In the OG girls program. if they don't know something about basketball coming out of 8th grade they're currently not going to learn it. 5. Coaches daughters/sons and managers have been doing drills with the teams for 40+ years. If you don't like it apply to coach. Also, does your daughter ever stay after practice to work on her game? Also, the beauty of OG basketball is 3 Jr. Highs and no one gets cut in Jr. High. In most schools these "less talented girls" would be cut in 7th grade. It comes down to working hard for your spot or you shouldn't get as much playing time. There were some girls in the program this year that should have been cut as freshmen, but somehow still played this year. 6. The former SPPS coach has probably forgotten more about basketball than the HS staff will ever know about the game. Also, he must have done a pretty good job because we have more girls on the team this year from SPPS than there have been for the last several years. Congrats to him for getting the girls interested. 7. Do you have all of the "establishments" bugged? 8. I think these young ladies are very lucky to have the parents they do that are looking out for their well being. A young ladies/adolescents self esteem should not be destroyed by a coach with a temper and a staff that turns their heads of these incidents. 9. As for your Soccer/Volleyball coaches comment, it appears you're trying to get these coaches to stand behind you. Again it's not about playing time or wins and losses, it's about treating these young ladies like maturing adolescents and not destroying them during their teenage years.

This post is spot on...anyone who has been to any of the "local establishments" can tell you that this is exactly what is going on.....and has been for the past 3 or 4 years. Kudos to outsider for posting what nobody else has been willing to say in this thread.
RESPONSE:
Randy, Way to stick up for your wifes post.
Summary: It's time for a change of the entire staff. This program has zero communication between the HS coaching staff and the Jr. High coaching staff. You have an assistant coach who dreams up things he thinks someone may have possibly might have said in an establishment and tells the head coach to get the staff all riled up. In your high school program, you do not have the freshmen team having their own practice. The JV having their own practice. The varsity having their own practice. They all practice together because it's all about control instead of having quality coaches around you that you have faith in to get the job done. Therefore you have 30 to 35 girls at a practice. This cuts all drills and playing time down by 2/3rd's. Outsider/Jayme, why don't you complain about this if you want your daughters to develop? The staff and the parents will have a tough time co existing because their have been many bridges burned by both parties. And the last I checked, you can't fire the parents. Please school board, make the right decision. We all know this has been going on for years. It is just more magnified when teams lose.
