I'm amazed Anna plays that style using very little bench. Those girls have to be exhausted. I'm sure that has alot to do with the poor free throw shooting. Also, it's rare these days to see neither team really even look at shooting the 3 ball. Both were driving to the basket and looking for fouls.

anna got caught up with the pace that the nubians wanted. It seemed if they went to the half court offense they could breakdown the defense but time after time they would break out then get a shot blocked or turn it over. I feel bad for them and thought that had they slowed down some they outcome may have been better.

The score should have read:
Columbus All-Star Team 70
Anna High School 66

Forget picking on private schools like LCC claiming they recruit. The real problem here is Africentric, Harvest Prep, and Zainesville Rosecorans. College prep schools smh

Zanesville Rosecrans???? Africentric is a PUBLIC school. Are you saying public schools recruit?

Columbus Africentric Early College. It's part of Columbus City Schools. So they pick and choose from the whole city of columbus and then compete against small schools in the state. Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans is down in Muskingum County.

Well, where was Ft. Recovery this year. Couldn't they just suck it up and get back there. Sucking it up and competing is not the issue. It is fairness. No matter what they say, big city private and charter schools pretty much select their players from large population areas and play in the lower enrollment divisions. It is not a level playing field.

I'm not from Anna nor am I bitter about any loss. I'm just stating my displeasure with Africentric. It's a program that just makes me cringe. It's an absolute joke.

I wonder, could any other group of Americans put a school together that refers to a place of their ancestry and a nickname that is undeniable to their race...such as the Africentric Nubians? They even have the image of Africa on their clothing.

Let's hear it for the European Caucasian!!....what do you think? How far would that school's name and nickname go before we'd have a lawsuit from the NAACP?

It may be alright to have a school by their name, being predominately "African-American"...but let's allow ALL groups of people to have such pride and exclusivity it they'd like to...without pulling the "race card" on us. Wouldn't it be cool to play a school that has the nickname of Redskins and have them actually be Iroquois or Shawnee Indians?? At least they would be representing their OWN land, not a foreign land.

Actually, I have LESS of an issue with their name or ethnicity than I do the fact that they are located within a population of over a million people, and yet they have no official district, or boundaries, that limit where their enrollment comes from. They can literally bring in the best players from across the city of Columbus, and have a small enough enrollment that puts them into the tournament against teams that have an extremely slim chance of such talent from within their defined borders. The playing field is NOT level when this is allowed to happen. The amazing thing is, that in about any given year, some small school's ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME team will be able to compete with these kinds of schools' EVERY YEAR team, and more times than not, end up missing out on their dream that they worked for. These are all-star teams that get ASSEMBLED in the summer, sometimes years before high school. The only difference between them and a TRUE all-star team is that the true all-star team only gets to practice a few times before they play their game, but these schools get to practice all season together.

I'd like to see what a group of the best girls from Hancock and Putnam Counties could do as a team against Africentric or Lake Ridge Academy, or a few others in the state that operate the same way.
The combined population of these counties is nowhere close to that of Columbus...but I bet they'd smoke the city girls if given the chance to practice all season together.

In the post game interview they spoke to the girl from Africentric that had 27 points, probably 10 rebounds, and was their primary ball handler. She was asked what is was like to be part of two state champion teams. She said it was her first state championship, and she had been at another high school when Aficentric won the last time. She had a look on her face that she probably shouldn't have just said that........

I too saw the interview on STO and I had to rewind a couple times to hear where she went to school when Africentric won it in 2009. It was kiyanna black and she was at independence hs back then.

These players know that what they are doing isn't fair, just like the rest of us. It's just that they don't care..."whatever it takes" to be a "Champion", I guess...

Wouldn't it be great to see a division 3 or 4 championship game putting town vs town?

Yes, it seems that these programs that win perpetually have a knack at attracting talent. I'm sure that most of these players are following the "rules" on their way to arriving at these schools. "Home-grown" is a thing of the past. Even high school athletics has become a business...VERY sad in my opinion.

Doesn't it seem a bit ridiculous the lengths that people go to, though, to have their kid "become" something in the sports world? If it's not about $$$, it's about fame. I love high school sports as much as the next guy, but it appears our society is getting their priorities all messed up. Parents will spend thousands of dollars putting little Jimmy on travel teams for years, and sometimes even the expense of moving into a certain district or renting an apartment or having a second residence just so their kid can have a CHANCE of being a champion or the hope that a scholarship comes their way.
