I'm hearing there's a meeting tomorrow morning with returning players and Coach Smith. Sounds like some kind of decision is coming fairly soon. Sounds like the pressure from some disgruntled parents is beginning to take it's toll. Sad that parents who've been complaining about her since their kids were in 6th grade can run out a coach who's had quite a bit of success. I hope they're happy. It's tough to get a coach to step into a situation where the last coach gets run out by the parents of returning kids. Who would want to take on that kind of mess????
first post and hopefully my last. I have always been one to stick up for the current coach and hope that if she does decide to hang up the whistle that she does it on her terms. she hates to lose, really hates to lose, and it shows in the way she approaches the game. when you've seen this team play this past year you can watch the player's eyes as they search out approving nods from their mothers and fathers sitting in the stands. it would be tough to coach this group knowing that as soon as they get in the car on the way back home that the conversations start. it's a sad commentary, very sad.

Now if Susie is hearing Mommy and Daddy running down the coach at every opportunity, and can find another reason to blame the coach for why Susie isn't playing instead of actually considering that she just isn't that great - then it stands to reason that Susie will race home to report anything she can so that she can escape the reality of her own ability level and the crushing disappointment that will generate for her overzealous parents.

I guess the next question is how does a program like OG have mostly 9th and 10 graders playing? As I figure it, OG should have 15 starters (3 middle schools) moving into the high school every year (plus a few subs from each school). What happened to those seniors and juniors from the current classes?
I can see some of the small D4 schools with some lean years for numbers, but you'd think with at least 20 girls per class coming in as freshman, it would be very competitive and you'd end up with some really good players.
I guess I could answer this rather easily. there are only about 4-5 schools in the wbl that even have a freshman team anymore. those 15 starters you're talking about. you can't even think of counting OE's contributions to this equation. so maybe 10 starters each year. there is no height, few ballhandlers, and maybe 1 or 2 decent shooters. you can't make steak out of hamburger. I believe that in the next few years that they can return to the top level in the wbl but not if this group of parents is allowed to control the show. when their daughters are long gone og basketball will still be there.
