Another note: How many coaches once had "unsuccessful" stints on the boys side and then went over to the girls side.

Charlie Maier did it, too. Coached boys at Coldwater for a few years before taking the reins of the girls' program and leading it to rather impressive heights.

I like coaching girls more than boys. I'm more laid back coaching girls and don't get as fired up haha. It's just hard to get too mad at a girl's team.

All Greg's kids are girls

I think many are missing the point of this thread. It's not guys that coach girls, it's guys who follow girls sports, exclusively. I think what you typically find is guys with daughters who play will follow the team while their daughters play, and that's about it. I'll admit, I'm a little uneasy with guys who have no connection to the team who just follow girls teams exclusively.

It's not liking the sport of basketball I am questioning.......I just can't see or understand how a grown man, with no relatives or connection to a team, watches basketball played exclusively by teenage girls and have absolutely no interest in boys basketball. It's even weirder when guys follow them around in the off-s eason watching tournaments, etc.

Folks think it's weird because people have been conditioned to think that way. You hear these stories about predators and crimes involving grown men and young girls, and that strikes a nerve with you and renders this scenario creepy when in all likelihood, they may just enjoy the game more because it tends to be a little less about finesse and more about fundamentals.

Don't judge the guys unless you know for sure their motivation for watching the game. You could always ask them why they watch girls basketball. I'm sure you'd get your answers one way or another...or possibly a black eye or two.

I've seen quite a few girls games this year (and guys). There's not always alot of finesse in girls games. Look at some of these recent scores.

Well, I did say the girls' games focused more on fundamentals, so my point stands.

I've never thought it weird that some guys watch girls games exclusively. They're just fans of the game to me. But I understand there are those who will think them a little odd, luike they have an ulterior motive. As I said in my previous post, if one is curious as to why they do it, just ask them. You'll get an answer in one form or another.

All things being equal, and if a guy had no child/ relative playing, it's much more normal for a man to exclusively watch boys play than girls. Men tend to be more on the coaching/ instruction side of the game. And that could go very well for girls.

I don't care what is normal. I care that people are calling people creepy for things they enjoy to do. As long as no one is doing anything wrong or illegal leave them alone. You can make a person feel very uncomfortable with this thread. If I think that everyone is assuming I am a creep every time I go to a game, it will make me feel terrible and it will take away from me the ability to do something I love to do. Basically you are accusing people of being pedophiles because they like to watch this sport.

+1

Way too many people are rushing to judgement (if you're thinking guys are creepy for focusing their attention on girls basketball, that's exactly what you're doing). There is nothing wrong with a guy following a girls' sport. for the most part. You may have the occasional one who wants to go for the wrong reasons, but 99.99% of them watch because they enjoy the game. Again, many people today seem to be conditioned to think this scenario is weird, largely because of what they see on TV or read somewhere, and that's unfortunate. You're painting the overwhelming majority of these male fans as something they are not and never will be. I can understand now if a male girls' b-ball fan would read this and immediately get a sense of discomfort like he was being judged. Hopefully, that wouldn't stop him from going to games, though.

I would worry a whole lot more that their football coach is still teaching...........just my two cents worth
