Should've given C-R the boot........
Would that be the boot that kicked everyones arses? They should have it bronzed, Spike was a heck of a coach with one great program back then. We beat them for the first time in school history and screamed for a long time. Berry came into our locker room and congratulated us. What a class act he was.

Coach Berry has to be getting on in years by now, how is he doing health wise? A great coach who should have the respect of every player, opponent, friend, or foe for what he did for BVC football. Isn't it true his 68 team never even allowed an opponent to cross midfield?

Saw Spike last Wednesday night in Bluffton. He just came back from Florida and said he had a great time golfing.

I would consider the position. I will let DC/MS negotiate my salary.

Just a correction here.....that '68 team didn't allow an opponent inside the 20 yardline, not midfield.

FWIW, Spike could hit a halfcourt basketball shot like nobody I have ever seen. Plus some folks may not know that he did coach varsity basketball for a few years as well at C-R.

Is there a conference award for coach or player of the year in the BVC with Spike Berry's name on it?...If not, maybe there should be.

Went to LB to watch the guys game. I noticed LB had like 20 or so state championships/state runners-up titles within a 24 year range or something like that. They also have 115 conference titles if i counted right. hmmm is there any school even in comparison of that in the BVC.... dont think so.

Maybe everyone should thank LB for putting the "varsity" in the Barely Varsity Conference. It would be barely a conference without em.

And about 70 of those would be for boys and girls track and a bunch of league all sports awards... so what?

sorry Northwest... that was meant towards the assertation that some large number is supposed to mean something. Although lets face it, if it wasnt for the eagle's recent successes in the more popular team sports the whole size issue wouldnt come up.

Easy to figure out L-B's success in BVC track......Most of the other BVC schools can't put athletes in each track event like the Eagles can. Track is a numbers game folks.......Of course, having decent runners in each event helps also.
Not taking anything away from the Eagles, their banners are great to see, but the sheer numbers do play a role in their track success.

Also having numbers to field great track teams and good baseball teams will help a lot towards the "All Sports Trophy" most teams are good at either one or the other or neither

Don't base their success in the spring on numbers alone, although it certainly helps. I see L-B kids running on that track and around town in Feb. way before anyone else has even thought of track. Plus, as a side note, many of the schools in the BVC just don't take spring sports seriously for the most part. Many don't even attempt to play a compete schedule in the spring for baseball and softball. Sad, but spring sports are an afterthought in the conference.

I think it's true in track, but I think baseball and girl solfball this statement is a little off... McComb , Arlington , and a mix of other schools have been very compettive with LB over the years!!!
