Not to take away anything from a hard fought game by Arlington. But I thought the difference was the amount of shots that just simply fell for Arlington. You yourself said your going to need some luck in order to advance each and every game. Arlington had 4 three pointers that either hit the backboard and went in, or had the lucky bounce (aka shooters bounce). Not to mention some unforced turnovers on Ottovilles part. And sometimes you just have nights like that when a few girls on one side is hitting all their shots. Boy were the officials awful though for both teams, probably one of the worst regional officiating games that I have seen in a while. In my mind I thought the momentum changer was the travel called on Koch when Ottoville was up by 3. Not a very good call and I noticed some Arlington fans were shocked and obviously the Otttoville fans not too happy and they have a right because it definitely changed the momentum. Either way it was a great game to watch and congrats to both teams.
Interesting b/c I thought for the most part the referees stayed out of the way in this one. Don't forget at one time in the 2nd half it was 7 fouls Arlington, 1 Ottoville before O'ville started fouling to get back into it late. The HUGE call that I thought was going to change the game was mid way thru 4th when the foul was called on Amelia Recker under the basket on Siefker for a push by the ref at HALFCOURT! THe two under the basket didn't call a thing, and man I was concerned that was going to swing the game the other way as Ottoville then scored on a layup to cut the lead. Huge play, but thankfully it didn't affect the outcome. Siefker could have also been called many times in the paint when Amelia went thru her to the basket, but no calls. I was okay with it really, would rather have them swallow whistle and let the kids dictate outcome than every touch foul being called. I know the point guard for O'ville was tired of Joy Reamsnyder doggin her all nigth too...in the 2nd half, she continued to lead with her off arm to maintain distance...a sign we have seen all year in second half of games when Joy has been locked on a point guard....it's tough to go thru that all night...
I thought Arlington played a near perfect game last night. WHen is the last time in a GIRLS game, you see a team have
ZERO turnovers in a half?? Well, you did last night and it was Arlington with ZERO, and Ottoville with 9. You call them "unforced", but you know better than that. Defensive pressure all night leads to "unforced" turnovers....trust me. Give Arlington's defense some credit Mysterio...we did what we had to do to win. A couple of banked in 3's, HUGE rebounding effort against a dang college sized DIV girls team - bottom line - Arlington played harder and made plays; Klemen said it well in the paper.
Take nothing away from Ottoville - they played well and had a great year. Believe me, we know how it feels to think you have the best team in the state, be #1 and undefeated and then lose a heartbreaker. Ottoville was as good as advertised but on this night it wasn't meant to be.
Time to get on the Arlington bandwagon Mysterio! Welcome aboard...
