a season worth of and1 entertainment. maybe they should charge more for the tryouts. sponsorship would help as well. whos the marketing guru with this circus? it doesnt seem like its promoted at all throughout the community. koza only media I ever hear talk about them and why he does it ill never know, unless he likes to, as he puts it "suck up" with these "professional athletes"

i saw "good basketball" tonight at elida. thats where my money was spent.

Wow. You guys blow me away.

Watch James Hicks and Bryant Austin play and tell me they aren't good basketball players and the Explosion are a joke because "they lost their marquee player". :wallbash:

Not everyone who deserves a chance gets one.

I give up. Sick of fighting on here to be honest. Believe what you want.

It is the community. It's basketball.....either you go and pay to watch good basketball or you don't and you sit home and bitch until it fails then say i told you so like a dbag.....it appears a lot of the posters here are choosing to do the latter.

It's not the community...................go look at the crowds of the local high school tournament games, large crowds, many from adjacent towns that no longer have a team playing that go watch just to see some competitive basketball The ABA is just a flawed product. People around here love basketball.

Sorry, but 138-136 isn't "good basketball" in any way, shape or form. I don't care who's playing, I'm not paying anything to watch that.

No, you're just being stupid.

You had to commit to go to all 3 rounds before the tourney.......Chicago, NYC and Jacksonville...all of the players have other jobs. It was a good first season, 15-6.

If I remember correctly the salaries were only what...10-12k? Was the team paying gonna play for the lost wages while the team was out playing? Doesn't sound like it. MAYBE, since it was never said one way or the other, there was a player vote about the playoffs and they said no? Crazy idea? Maybe. But for finacial reasons I see it making sense. :shrug2:

Lets give them a break. High School not the same. This is strictly an entertainment opportunity, not much different than the All Star game coming up at Elida. If I want to see highly skilled players do very athletic things then I will see the Explosion. If I want to root for my school, I will go to HS game. I have been around way to many years and I see a gradual decline in fundametal basketball. In twenty years, Allstar type game action will be more the norm and HS basketball as we have all known it will be a faint twinkle in our eyes. Watch big city HS basketball, somewhat different than North West Ohio. Just some rambling thoughts.

Thanks Slice!

I have to say, I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've ever received flowers for anything! ha ha

I am more than happy to answer questions from anyone, anytime, almost anywhere. I've been poking around the site and it looks like there are a lot of people on here who not only know a lot about sports in the area, but they also care about what happens in those sports. Of course there are also a few people who just like to interject their opinions no matter how appropriate, but the former definitely outweighs the latter.

I just re-read this post - it's not directed at anyone in particular, I just noticed a couple of inappropriate posts on other threads - I'd hate to start off my experience at RC on the wrong foot.

Maybe John Bell could come back after sticking his head in here for the first 3 pages on this thread and clarify what the plans are? ..........

I think I have to disagree with this statement. While I agree, it seems like there is different styles played between teams from the bigger cities and teams from NW Ohio, look at who wins the championships when it matters in Columbus. I can't tell you how many times I, and I'm sure many of you here have seen small schools or "farm boys" head to state as the extreme underdog and coming out on top of those heralded big city teams. While you may see more schools going to this style of play, I don't think that style in many cases holds up against good fundamental basketball.

As far as the Explosion go and "good basketball", it's not. As someone said already, no way is 130-113 good basketball. Also, people don't buy into the 4 point shots and the 4 point "indicator".

Wrong answer: People are viewing this thread to see the explosion failure. Most people knew it was a bad idea from the start ans said so prior to try outs..

Allen Iverson was a no show.
But it wasn’t AI’s fault. He didn’t know anything about it.
The former NBA Most Valuable Player and four-time NBA scoring champion was the featured performer on the bill for Street Ball 2 last Saturday at Lima Senior.
Iverson was supposed to head a Street Ball team that would meet the Lima Explosion and Friends.
The game went on without Iverson, as the Explosion posted a 131-100 victory over the Street Ballers.
After the game, most thought Iverson had stiffed Lima. Even game promoter Quincey Simpson figured as much.
But, on further review, Simpson said he and the 1,500 fans who paid $10 per ticket were victims of a scam by Atlanta Street Ball player “Posterboy,” also known as Jakari Brooks.
“Unfortunately for me, I didn’t do my homework,” Simpson said on Tuesday.
The full truth started to unravel on Monday when Iverson heard of the incident over Twitter.
“I never agreed to do an event in Ohio. I apologize to my fans who came out under false info,” Iverson said on his official Twitter account.
Iverson also apologized over Twitter to Simpson for the confusion. Later, an Iverson staffer called Simpson and said the Iverson public relations team knew nothing of the event.
Posterboy/Brooks’ first knowledge of Street Ball in Lima came in May when Simpson hosted the Lima Explosion against White Chocolate’s And1 team at Lima Central Catholic.
“Brooks called me the week of that game when he saw it on-line,” Simpson said. “He wanted to get some guys and play in that game.”
I said, “I don’t even know you,” Simpson said.
Brooks didn’t play in that game, but came to Lima to watch the game at LCC.
After that, Brooks stayed in touch with Simpson and said he could bring his own Street Ball team to Lima for another game.
Simpson agreed.

Then, Brooks took it one huge step farther.
Brooks said he could deliver Iverson.
“Posterboy claimed to be a close friend of Allen Iverson and a promoter,” Simpson said.
Simpson agreed to the Iverson game and signed a contract. Then, like Simpson did with White Chocolate in the first game, he sent Brooks a deposit. The remainder of the money would be paid at game time.
Fans began asking whether Iverson would be available for autographs. When Simpson inquired to Brooks about autographs and pictures, he spoke to a woman named “Claire,” who was supposedly on the Iverson public relations staff.
It was all part of the scam, Simpson said.
On game night, Brooks told Simpson that Iverson would land at the Dayton airport at 4:45 p.m. That would cut it close, but Iverson would be there around 7 for the tipoff.
But when 6:30 came, there was no Iverson. Simpson pushed the game back to an 8 p.m. start.
Brooks did bring a team, but the talent he brought wasn’t on the level of the first game.
“They were horrible,” Simpson said.
The game started near 8 p.m. without Iverson.
By halftime, Simpson demanded Brooks find out where Iverson was.
“I told him to get on his phone,” Simpson said. “I don’t know if he talked to someone or not, but he said he (Iverson) had to get off the phone because it was raining too hard (on the drive up I-75). That’s when I knew he wasn’t coming. I was sick.”
After the game, Simpson got on the microphone and apologized to the fans. He said he would have another game in the spring and would make it free to everyone. He also gave fans their money back for several days after the event.
In the confusion after the game, Simpson sought out Brooks. He found his teammates, but Brooks had vanished.
Simpson didn’t give Brooks the remainder of the money, the exact amount he wouldn’t reveal.
“It wasn’t cheap,” Simpson said.

An hour or so after the game, the drama built when Iverson Tweeted, “Just landed in Shanghai looking forward to this week.”
So Iverson was in an airport Saturday night. It just wasn’t in this country.
Simpson said he’ll take Brooks to court.
“But I don’t care about the money. I want people when they hear about Jakari Brooks or Posterboy, not to do business with him,” Simpson said.
When contacted by the Lima News, Brooks was apologetic about the situation, but didn’t say it was a scam.
“I tried to bring a great event to Lima and didn’t happen. I want to apologize to Quincey Simpson and I want to apologize to the city of Lima. It wasn’t Mr. Simpson’s fault. He’s a great person.”
As for why Iverson didn’t appear, Simpson said, “There was a lot of miscommunication. I should have followed up with it more direct communication and not with a third party.
“I made a terrible mistake. If he (Simpson) feels I scammed him, I apologize for the misunderstanding. … I’ll refund (Simpson’s money).”
Brooks’ teammate on the Street Ball team, Robert Pierson (Easy J) said his team knew nothing of the scam prior to the game.
“When we were warming up, some kids were asking us about Allen Iverson and we didn’t know anything about it,” Pierson said.
Pierson flew in from Minneapolis for the game and was promised $400 by Brooks, but saw nothing of the money.
“We looked around at the end of the third quarter for him and he was gone. He vanished,” Pierson said.
Pierson did confront Brooks at the hotel in Columbus about the money and the Iverson scam.
“At first, he said he didn’t know anything about it. Then, I called him out and he admitted it,” Pierson said. “Something has to be done here.”
Pierson said it was the fifth game he played for Brooks and not his first scam.
“He set up a game in my hometown of Minneapolis and said (Street ball legend) Hot Sauce would be there,” Pierson said. “But Hot Sauce didn’t show up and he (Brooks) said he couldn’t make it.

“I thought it was a freak accident, but now after this …. I’m pretty sure he’s got a long list of times he’s done this. It’s just not Minneapolis and Ohio. … What he did was dirty. It hurt my feelings. I was embarrassed. And we knew nothing about it (Iverson supposed to come).”
This week Simpson was truly embarrassed by the entire mess.
“The truth is I had a contract with Posterboy, who had Allen Iverson’s name in the contract. But Allen didn’t know anything about it,” Simpson said.
The only person who knew the whole story was Brooks.
And he took the deposit money and ran.
Get out Mr. Simpson, get out and never look back.
