Not sure why anyone had to attack his opinion, especially one that seems pretty logical. He never once condoned the actions, rather just said the act alone is far from grounds to think that he's a bad person. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but this sole incident as some sort of proof is laughable. And the notion that somebody wouldn't want to be known to associate with a friend who made a mistake is far and away the most off-base thing presented in this debate.
