It is currently the Elida District that is failing this child.

You call this 'hypothetical'? Why can't you just admit that you're wrong once in a while?

funny how there is no word on the kid's parents not getting involved (ala the pizza hold-up). are they involved with him or are they taking the high road by accepting the punishment.

Overwhelmed may be a better fit from what I hear.

Context manipulation notwithstanding...is the new argument that the Elida District has succeeded? ;)

Look, there might be nothing ANYBODY can do for this kid. That is not Elida's fault. While it is debatable whether the law or the school district is the responsible party to the current punishment...I commend authority for finally taking a strong stance.

That said...a reasonable person might conclude that a kid who was one wayward glance away from jail probably had no business representing Elida by playing on the basketball team. With the benefit of hindsight we KNOW that all previous consequences were too lenient to change this kid's behavior. We would not have to dig too deep to illuminate a series of adult/system failures. Fair to say that future athletic participation rules at Elida should contain a theft clause that results in dismissal. For a lot of us...this was/is common sense.

I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

Uh, no. Just pointing out an obvious inaccuracy in they post where you defended yourself. But I get it so you don't have to say it - you were wrong.

Elida school system WAS well aware of his past behaviors before he ever walked into the school. It was a balancing act between school and sports. There were two options. Proactive or reactive. Its for the people on here to form their own opinions of which option Elida Administration chose.
On another note, Wapak also took risk with their addition for football.
Consider this: Other schools said NO to athletic paticipation in both of the above mentions situations. WHY???????????????

It has become very apparant to me that when a kid tranfers for sports, that new school should run as fast as they can the other way. To some degree it seems to come back to haunt them.

Nighty Night,

I'm not sure when you say........"the Rocket is learning?"....
we usually don't have to mention names, everyone around here is pretty sharp.......and of course we get "Media Passes" :bag:
we are no less "media" than the Lima News or any other form of electronic communications.........the Lima News sells about 35,000 papers
on Sunday, their busiest day of the week...........the RC gets in the neighborhood of 3,500 different IP addresses on a Friday night, our busiest night.......
so we're not quite as "popular" as TLN, but we're sure as heck "media" :blackdot:

and 4 pages, working on 10 if what I'm hearing is true..........RM

ROFLMAO.....rocketman thinks he's deserving of a media pass......funniest thing I've heard for years. And I know a lot of really fun people.

Ok, let's cut out the inuendo and provide some clear-cut facts.

What's the bottom line in all of this? Is he playing, or not?
You get to the NEXT level only by being successful at the CURRENT one. Play today's game first, enjoy the victory, then and only then, look ahead!

Please try to stay focused. The initial post isn't about stealing, which to me is far worse and should involve police rather than the school system.

Cheating is an academic issue. It's pretty widespread, and even some of the "nicest" and "best character" kids cheat too. It's more like speeding in that many do it and few are caught.

If a school has a different procedure for athletes than its other students, then that's wrong. Whatever the established precedent is for cheating in that school is, then it should be followed. If the athletic dept. has a rule that students are ineligible during any punishment handed down from cheating, then that should be followed to a "T".

Don't bring up CHARACTER in regards to education. It's not the job of the schools to instill character. People already complain about how much teachers are paid, now we want them to build character in 40 minutes per day for 9 months with 30 kids per class when their parents couldn't do it with far more leverage and power over 18 years?

This may not be about Stealing, but about Cheating. Student Athletes should be held to a higher standard and I would say that the Coach (at every school) says on the first day of practice, "If you get caught doing something which gets you in trouble during school or out of school you will also be punished on the field, court or diamond by reduced or no playing time." It is part of life, you mess up and cheat at work to make your numbers look better you will get fired and then have to explain that to the next potential employer you go to, good luck with that by the way.
It should have happened sooner, and the young man should be thanking his lucky stars that Reggie McAdams and Co. were able to come back from 10 down (or however much it was) to beat Wapak so he can have the opportunity to play high school basketball again. Hope he and others have learned a lesson from this, and if not here it is

And everyone else.....don't speed or speed up to beat the light just because there's not a police officer around.....and don't "fudge" things on your taxes.....and dont' keep the extra change if a cashier makes a mistake and gives you too much money back.....and so on and so on. For all of you who want this kid, and any others who likewise make mistakes, hung out to dry, just remember what you have written next time you "cheat" the system. Not saying he shouldn't be held accountable, because he should. And he has been suspended and did not play in the tournament game last night. Enough is enough. Thank goodness we don't do firing squads in this country cause some of you would have him blindfolded and lined up against a wall by now.
