Really??? For a guy who claims to know so much about basketball, this is great!!!!!

Dayton lost to UCLA and a guy named Lew Alcindor in 1967 when Tom was on the team. Yes they were D1 :)

I believe at the point in time Dayton played UCLA in the NCAA tournament it was the tail end of the NIT heyday. Dayton could have been D1AA and been invited to play in the 22-25 team field of the NCAA tournament.

Vicky just can't take it that she didn't get an athletic D1 scholarship.

I wouldn't say that player ;)

From Doug Hauschild at UD:
"Not an easy question to clearly answer. We have never not been Division I. We have always been eligible for the highest championship the NCAA has offered. The NCAA went to divisions I, II and III in 1973."

This "argument" really isn't about that anyway. We can confidently agree that since 1990 when AAU started to take off, there have been 2 players from OG go D1 for Men's Basketball. Anyone else in the county? Preferably someone who would have been seen on color television.....

I have watched some of the girls games at O-G over the years especially during the heyday period of 2001-2005 when they were clicking on all cylinders. Sometimes the talent level just for whatever reason runs dry. When that happens and when you have a coach like Lori Smith whose motor is always running problems just seem to be amplified. Personally maybe she is too intense when she has teams that are devoid of talent and gets frustrated and perhaps puts her mouth in motion before her brain in gear. With her personality I am thinking she is gonna burn herself out in time unless she decides to refocus and harness that intensity that she displays on the sideline. A couple of years ago I heard she had a chance to become a coach at a D-3 school and she turned it down. In all honesty she may be more suited for the collegiate ranks of coaching instead of the high school where she can bring in her talent instead of taking what is available at the high school level.

well 2002 -2006 so much talent anyone could coach those teams!! they should have gone to state. Now the talent is average but she cannot coach and bring out the best in the girls.

Sometimes you just have to deal with the fact that not every team can be good. Somebody has to be towards the bottom of the conference.

Any basketball program is only as strong as it's youth program. Get those kids started in 4th/5th grade and watch the grow up!

OG improved quite a bit from the start of the year until the end. With so many freshmen and sophs playing, I'd say a 7 win season is fairly successful. If the girls buy into what Coach Smith is saying.....and not what their parents are saying, they'll be fine.

And there is the problem. If a kid comes home from practice and all they hear is "coach is a POS, she doesn't know what she's doing, she yells too much, you should be playing more, she doesn't yell enough, why is little janie playing" and on and on. Parents should be there for support not to coach. And there is a difference between supporting and making comments. If negativity is being sewn at home, it is wrong and the parent shouldn't do it. If they really want to be a coach, they should put their name in, or atleast help out with the younger ages.

Perspective is a good thing. Freshman and sophomores are going to get better as they grow and mature.
