Media pass???? A rumor mill website is hardly media. 4 pages of talk about a h.s. Kid. I'm shocked his name hasn't been mentioned yet.
The Rocket is learning....

Nighty Night,

I'm not sure when you say........"the Rocket is learning?"....
we usually don't have to mention names, everyone around here is pretty sharp.......and of course we get "Media Passes" :bag:
we are no less "media" than the Lima News or any other form of electronic communications.........the Lima News sells about 35,000 papers
on Sunday, their busiest day of the week...........the RC gets in the neighborhood of 3,500 different IP addresses on a Friday night, our busiest night.......
so we're not quite as "popular" as TLN, but we're sure as heck "media" :blackdot:

and 4 pages, working on 10 if what I'm hearing is true..........RM

Well at least we didn't get to the point where we again had to watch an area athlete play while wearing an ankle monitor. B)

I have to ask...what is wrong with a lot of you? You are posting about a student, that probably is reading all of these posts. How do you think he feels after he reads these posts? Oh, you will probably say that he deserves it. Did you ever hear about cyber bullying and the effects it has on people? That is what you are doing and shame on you. You want to sit there and pick apart his life and problems. Where is the support? Oh, I guess people give up on others. That is the problem.

Ok....no.

I agree with you that I don't like it when people trash these kids, especially by name but this is not bullying. People are too quick to use the "B" word these days.

Why don't the law abiding citizens just go to jail while the criminals get 2nd, 3rd, 4th.... chances and try and prove that they can be a positive influence on us people that TRY and do the right thing.

Cyber bullying is for the weak in need of an excuse. If anything, he should try harder, knowing this is what people think of him.

I understand that this is a sports forum. Having said that, most people on here are completely missing the point. All that anyone is concerned about is whether the kid will get to play in a damn game. What about the future of the kid, after sports when he will no longer contribute to a win on the court. Given his past, sports should be the least of the worries. Hopefully he will live a long and PRODUCTIVE life long after some ballgame that nobody will even remember in 2 years anyway. Schooling and parenting are supposed to set the direction of a kid for an entire lifetime, not just long enough to get him through his senior athletic season.

If it were my kid, I would say,

"Look, you have been such a jackwagon that even adults on a sports forum are talking about it. Wake up and smell the coffee son."

This isn't his first trip to the Misbehavin' Rodeo. If it were then the fact that he acted up in class would not be a topic.

How do you think the people feel that he is letting down over and over again, his coaches, his teammates, his classmates. It seems this kid has no regard for anyone but himself. Its not everyone's job to save him, he has to show some interest in bettering himself, making excuses for him is only enabling the behavior.

People seem to be making a lot of excuses for this kid who, as far as I can see, is well on his way down the road to permanently screwing up his life. Too many people seem perfectly willing to give him a free pass instead of kicking him in the backside and making sure he has his head screwed on straight. Granted, he's gotta be the one to want to improve his lot in life, but those who want to hand everything to him on a silver platter without any consequences would do well to show him a little tough love. If he continues to choose the wrong path after that, that's his decision and his alone.

Yes Emerson. If that is what it takes then that is what needs to be done. I remember up here in Defiance about 13 years ago, a very good Jr. high athlete attempted to burn down the Jr. high school. He was disciplined through the court system (The proverbial slap on the wrist). A few years later, he was cleared to play football on the varsity team. A big story came out in the newspaper about how he had changed his life around and what a good edition he was to the football team etc. Just about 3 months ago he was tried and convicted of aggravated murder at the age of 27. He will be 55 years old before he even has his first parole hearing. What the heck though, he finished his senior football season on the straight and narrow.

Since a one day school suspension was met with an additional one game basketball suspension from the coach, we can suspect that this student is looking at at LEAST 3 gUames off for a 3-day school suspension...particularly since he is a repeat offender.

Unless Elida plays 180 basketball games during the season, not sure how you can equate 1 day, 1 game...3 days, 3 games???? It appears the school is handling this as they see fit. Don't really see a need to debate how it's handled on a message board. Wasn't a fight, no one was hurt, no police involvement with holding up pizza deliver guys...just let it go.

everyone on here is quick to prosecute but does anyone here really know what happened. was he simply looking across the aisle at someones desk{which about 99% of students have done in their school years} did he have a cheat sheet?,he was accused of cheating but was there any proof? he served his suspension but everyone calls for more.is it fair to the rest of the team who have done nothing wrong to make them play shorthanded for an offense that has been penalized and served by this athlete. on another slant it is getting very dissapointing to get on this site and all that people ever do is gossip, can we maybe talk about games we have seen, upcoming games, how good a team is and why they are good. i thought that was the purpose of a sport forum, not to gossip about things that we maybe know about!

I agree 100%. I believe that any coach/administration who facilitate ANOTHER slap in the wrist are not acting in the best interest of the kid. Which leads me to question why these adults are in education? You will find that many adults are in it for their own ego stroke. If this kid is needed to win a few ballgames so the adults around the program can feel good about themselves...then thy shall be done. Never-mind that the cost of this adult ego-stroke is a kid's future.

Look, from the sound of it there is a good chance that nothing will work for this kid. But that is no excuse for the adults in and around the Elida education system to turn a blind eye and quit trying to fulfill their duties. Their duty is to TRY and educate this kid to the best of their abilities. This is a golden opportunity for this kid to be taught that there are REAL consequences to poor behavior. If the Elida adults fail him today, this lesson will be learned via law enforcement...when it is too late. Taking away the one thing he loves just might be enough to convince him to change his ways. And if it doesn't...at least you tried. But sadly...it sounds like we will never know if this could have changed this boy's life. The adults need their ego fix. Screw the kid they USE to meet THEIR needs.

is it fair to the rest of the team who have done nothing wrong to make them play shorthanded for an offense that has been penalized and served by this athlete.

This would depend on your priorities. For those who believe high school sports is about wins and loses...they would answer unfair. For those who believe that high school sports has a larger mission that includes discipline, teamwork, consequences, etc...this is a shining moment to teach EVERY kid a life lesson about what happens to those who continuously break rules. We would answer that this is not only very FAIR...but it is the only acceptable result consistent with the mission of educating children and preparing them for life.

I'd argue the opposite. Is it fair to the rest of the kids on the team to learn the deviant lesson that repeat offenses, including stealing and cheating, have no major consequences? Not only is the adult ego stroke short-changing the student involved...it is sending a poor message to every kid in the district that deviant behaviors are all but tolerated at Elida. And if you can get away with it at Elida, why would you believe you could not get away with it later in life?

I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
