Same post two threads... c'mon Falcon you're better than that! :D Anyway... this is the same old talk every year... and it always ends the same, most small schools/conferences go through cycles of good years and bad years. Some, however, might not recover in the end and some may be on top for awhile. Still won't change the fact the LB will be in the BVC and be competitive. Until they dominate every sport like they have in track (boys and girls) the league won't "boot" them out... regardless of how much they recruit. ;) There are other BVC schools out there that have had as much success at times in the past, and they weren't asked to leave, in fact other schools stepped up to the challenge and their turn came to be on top. I don't foresee a change in the BVC except for adding quality, not ridding the conference of quality opponents

Absolutely! You don't make the conference better by getting rid of the best teams.

If the NWC was "curb stomping" schools for being too good they would have kicked out Crestview many yeras ago because other than in football, they've been the dominate school in sports overall in the conference for the past 20 years or so. What people who are not part of the league do not understand is that it was a flawed "marriage" from the start. People need to go do a little research on how the voting actually went and how many votes it actually took.

Pile on all you want - the MAC didn't want any part of the Tbirds (for whatever their reasons) and they're arguably the best small school confernce in the state.

As for the BVC expanding - the climate is right to look at changes. Have they articulated their reasons for even considering expansion? What is the league trying to accomplish by expanding? Big school/small school for football? Doesn't seem like enough of a reason to change for just football.

How about Ada, Allen East, Arlington, Bluffton, Columbus Gove, Cory Rawson, LB, McComb, and 2 other schools of your choosing or how ever many you want to add. If you're changing - think outside the box a little. Good forum fodder.

I think the BVC has been very agressive over the past couple months initiating expansion talks. To your point, letters of inquiry went out to over a dozen surrounding schools who border the BVC. Explanations as to why expansion was needed was provided to all BVC administrators. There are many reasons why expansion would be good.
  • Increased gate receipts
  • better competion for all schools (divisions will not be big and small, but mixed)
  • expansion would provide more wrestling, cross country, golf members fof league participation
  • better media coverage for individual recognition
  • stability (will Vanlue/HN field teams)
  • Timing and opportunity is now. Quality schools are available

why get rid of Leipsic and Pandora-Gilboa?

why doesnt the BVC just add 2 schools FOR FOOTBALL ONLY, for kind of an air bag when HN and Vanlue cant field anymore

I would've expected Grove to send it back not having any interest.

It will be intersting to see how many teams say yes to the invite. I'm betting H-L and Riverdale will be the first two yesses. Tiffin Calvert may be next.

You really think they'd allow Calvert in?

NO way!!! Expansion would be squashed if that's the case

I'd say it depends on how many teams say yes. Logistically, Tiffin's distance from the other schools is not favorable. But back to my earlier comment.. I think tiffin would seriously consider the BVC since it appears the MAL is dead, if not yet buried. The question is what other alternatives do the remaining MAL schools have? What does Tiffin do if a NB and H-L say yes to the BVC. I really think there will be a number of schools say they are interested simply because they could be left out in the cold if they say no.

To me they'd say yes, but I don't see them being asked.

That being said, if you look at the schools they'd probably be grouped with, I don't think distance would be an issue.

Logistically speaking it would make for some long hauls for the Vikings if the Tiffin Schools join. An hour plus to H-L and T-C. Carey, Mohawk or any of the eastern schools mentioned would create long drives and late nights for mid week games. The other members of the BVC would go from 15 minute rides to maybe 30. Us, McComb, and P-G better get some comfortable busses.
I'm all for expansion, but wow, travel distances would have to be considered during division alignment. We've already got 45 minute plus drives from here to Vanlue, H-N, and nearly that long to Arcadia, and Arlington.

Leipsic to Bascom and Carey are both 40 mile trips, the same distance as HN.

As recently as last school year, our SHORTEST distance to a league school was 34 miles. The longest was 71 miles, and the average is currently around 45 miles. So, I'd consider the BVC to be pretty cozy as far as travel is concerned. Luckily, we haven't had to pass any levies to purchase comfortable busses for our teams to ride in. Lucas did, however, bring their team in on a charter bus one year.:)
