listening to ESPN's Sports Center Saturday and this is one of their topics of discussion.... and Lord, do i have a bunch to contribute!! lol

i'll start with just one though.....

i was anticipating a phone call, & while using the lgr (little girls' room), the phone rang... in haste, uhm.... went to 'finish business' and hit my nail (acrylic) on the toilet seat & TOTALLY ripped it off the base of my finger bed...the acrylic nail WITH my natural nail attached!!!..... was bleeding profusely & wouldn't stop... decided i had to go to the hospital.... i was sooooooo embarrassed having to explain what happened! and, of course, they just can't relay it from one 'in the need to know' person to the next...i had to retell it to half a dozen nurses/doctors!!!!! ugh... :(

what's some of your silly injuries?

Running in the house, carrying a kitchen chair with the top braced against my waist with the legs sticking out in front of me. While passing through a narrow doorway between rooms, one of the legs ran into the door frame. I was going so fast that my body left the ground and wrapped around the chair, before crumpling in agony to the floor.

I would have laughed if I were able to breathe

Broke my ankle in 7th grade before gym class trying to jump and touch the back board. Came down on a friends foot. Tendon pulled a piece of the bone off. Still have issues with it.

That was silly. You were a 14 year old white boy. You had as much chance of touching the rim as you did the end of the rainbow.

it wasn't silly, it was stupid.....skiing in the trees at Snowbird Utah without my tips up! Ski went under the root, stopped me on a dime. Pulled the ski and boot right off foot. I continued to ski on it the rest of the day ignoring the pain but a one hour ride home in the car did me in.....fell right out of the car trying to get out...was rushed to the hosp...tore the ligaments in the knee pretty good!!

This injury didn't happen to be but a friend of mine. A couple years ago his girls basketball team played at Kenton. A Kenton player attempted to make a skip pass toward him and as a player tried to save the ball, he turned to dodge away from the play and tore his meniscus. To add insult to injury they ended up losing.

Pulled something in my back earlier this winter when I sneezed. I had a cup of coffee in one hand & I was trying to sneeze while avoiding spilling the coffee.

The aging process is tough. I've injured myself in similar, unbelievable ways as well. If you had known you would have simply put the coffee down, lol

My brother gave me a bear hug. Nothing out of the norm. Punctured my lung.

My cousin got his hand stuck under a sled while sledding down a hill and sliced his hand open. It was July.

Definitely aging process kicking my butt.... However, I couldn't put the coffee down as it was a surprise sneeze, it totally snuck up on me.

Working on my dad's farm, I was attempting to transport a day-old calf to its hutch in the yard when it started getting antsy and kicked me in the groin area with pretty decent force. I don't think I need to tell anyone, particularly the men of this board, the nature and severity of pain I was feeling.

Slipped on ice and got a hernia.

Riding my bike-I decide it is hot and I try to take my shirt off while still riding (with no hands on handle bars)……bike started to veer(It was hot so road was soft tar)….I grabbed the handle bars and jerked them back and the front wheel buckled under me. I went flying…….without a shirt on now……skinned my whole front upper half....picked gravel out for a week.

Oh God.

1 When I was 9 I broke my right thumb after shutting in a car door. Still have the proof too......while my left thumb is rounded at the top, my right one comes to a point. The doctors claim that I was lucky it was Christmas Eve and I was wearing gloves, or it might have fell off. I don't know if they were just trying to scare me or if they were serious, but I know it took hours for the bleeding to stop and I had to reteach myself how to write.

2 I played trombone in high school band and one day I was trying to lift the horn up.......and gave myself a slight concussion after smacking myself in the head.

3 I kicked the corner of a wall in my own house trying to turn a corner too sharp and broke my little toe.

4 I was trying to move a bunch of boxes with a 2 wheeled dolly cart. I dropped the box on the wrong part of the cart, and it came forward....giving me another concussion after it hit me in the side of the head.

5 Too many ankle injuries to mention. Never broke it, but I have bone chips floating around now because there was a period of time where I think I sprained them both about 25 times over the course of 6 months. If there was a hole in the ground, I was going to find it lol.

I'm just clumsy, and as you can tell I have something against my head, my hands, and my feet........

Done that more than once, but no concussions. Sure can give you a nice headache for the day, though.

When I played, (Knute Rockne League) if you took a good shot to the head but never blacked out or foamed at the mouth, you could go back in after a few plays after you had some time to "Get over it."

Think about it: They use to wave smelling salts under our noses to bring us around. Then when our eyes were able to focus on a fixed spot again, we were good to go!
