The question was a young coach with some of the qualities to be great, if you can't see he has that then you don't know him well enough to speak for or against him. His resume is starting pretty good I think, first year coaching he took a team to regionals, the second year districts and now he's at OG. What did he need to do to impress you, take a team to state already, he was one game away his first year. I do agree he does have a big last name....McGlaughlin, I wouldn't want to write that big of a last name

The thread's original question was who has the qualities to be a great coach and it also seems to speculate who might be a 300/400 win type of "legend" in the future.
Coach Mac at OG has "some of the qualities" and very obviously the opportunity to put up a lot of wins.
- school has great basketball tradition - check
- young guy that could be here for decades - check
- stable job situation allowing him to stay indefinately - check
- family lives in the area, likely keeping him at this job - check
- good staff around him - check
This young man has about 30 or so years to go before retirement, and could coach for 10-20 more after he gets out of teaching.
if he has a good career.
OG has averaged 19 wins/year over the last 15 years. Granted, there has been some amazing talent that is a bit lacking now, but even 15 wins/year gets a coach 350-400 wins here in 25 years.
Definate potential 400 win coach. And that's what the thread was about.
