there's lots of frivolous holidays/observances that we celebrate, but New Years is a legal national holiday that just leaves me scratching my head asking, "why?" perhaps i'm just not aware of the full explanation & there's more to it than it's just the 1st day of the New Year?

if anyone knows, i'd be delighted to hear.....which brings me to my topic.....
what do you consider some of the most useless celebrated days that we commemorate & why?
