with Christmas all but over and New Year's Day our next major holiday, i've always wondered what's the significance/importance of New Year's Day being a legal national holiday?

there's lots of frivolous holidays/observances that we celebrate, but New Years is a legal national holiday that just leaves me scratching my head asking, "why?" perhaps i'm just not aware of the full explanation & there's more to it than it's just the 1st day of the New Year? :shrug2:
if anyone knows, i'd be delighted to hear.....which brings me to my topic.....

How could you forget Arbor Day? This year it is April 27. A truly great holiday that should be celebrated by all.

Sweetest Day is by far and away the most worthless. Second worthless is probably Columbus Day or Friendship Day.

Still not sure why we give that idiot who landed in America, thought he was in India, and then pretty much murdered, enslaved, and robbed the locals his own holiday.

So yeah, Columbus Day for sure.

Of the legal holidays MLK, Presidents, and Columbus day top my list as most useless. All they are good for is a 3-day sale at dept stores. Veterans and Memorial day seem kinda redundant.
