He could go there and be there 10-15 years if there is a decent feeder program...he isn't an old guy by any stretch of the imagination.
He would be a super fit...and winning just seems to follow him.
Some administrator's and so called "experts" tend to over think the obvious!

agreed that he is a great fit and he wins. I cant imagine passing up on a chance like that.
Disagree that administrators are "so called experts," because they are experts (or at least they should be). I'd say 99% of administrators make a decision based on what they think is best for the kids and the school to run properly. Thats not over thinking the obvious.

Also anyone know who is up for the Greenville job? I have not heard much about it but I thought it may garner some interest? What happened to their coach anyways? Its not to often someone steps down after getting to the regional finals, did he take a job elsewhere?

Greenville or Russia either one would/could be a good fit!

I believe he coached at Russia for 2 years or so until 2004 or 2005 then went to Greenville.

Great choice! The man knows baseball and is well respected by all in the area.
Good kids and a good coach... a good combination.

Rick Gold actually has the credentials to back it up - and he will return to the high school dugouts next spring to take over a Russia program that has had plenty of success of its own.
Gold, who has a record of 505-244 during a coaching career that included stops at Miami East and Piqua, as well as Piqua Post 184, is a member of the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Miami Valley Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and Miami East Athletic Department Hall of Fame. He made the decision Thursday to take over a Russia program that advanced to the regionals this past spring.
"I think everyone likes to run their own program and see what they can do," Gold, an assistant coach at Wittenberg, said. "I really appreciate the time I spent at Wittenberg and the opportunity they gave me."
Gold did his research before making his final decision.
"I talked to coach (Bill) Shoffner and coach (Joe) Marker, who was there for eight years," Gold said. "Everyone I talked to had nothing but great things to say about Russia. I am really looking forward to the opportunity."
And Gold is not unfamiliar with Russia.
"We had Joel and Colin Puthoff, who played for us at Wittenberg," Gold said. "When I was coach for Post 184, we always seemed to have a Russia kid on the team and they were all good players."
During his time at Miami East and Piqua, Gold always had some of the most respected teams in the area, winning numerous league titles along with the postseason success.
He combined to win 10 league titles and nine sectionals, while also coaching Post 184 to nine American Legion state tournament appearances and one Connie Mack state title.
But, he knows those coaching credentials only go so far.
"During the introductory stage, I am sure it is impressive to the players," he said. "But, at some point, you have to go out on the diamond and show them you know what you're talking about."
And there aren't many who know more about the game than Gold - who still enjoys teaching the game to young players.
"I am looking forward to taking what I have learned in the last eight years (at Wittenberg) and see how it translates to the high school game. I think at some point, everyone wants to run their own program."
Gold has an idea what his biggest adjustment may be.
"Going back to that yellow bus," he said with a laugh. "The last three years, Wittenberg has taken all their road trips in a Greyhound. That yellow bus may be a shock to my body."
Gold said he saw just one Russia game last year and is looking forward to getting to know the players.
"I can't wait for school to start so I can meet them," Gold said. "Everything I have heard about Russia is great. They have always had great community support. When I heard about the job being open, I knew that was one I might be interested in."
