I believe the Wapak and Bluffton movie theatres run a deal that is hard to beat. $3 admission each and you can buy a large popcorn and two large drinks for $5. So, 2 parents and two kids could go to movies for $22 and have all the food and drink also. Maybe you could get the boosters to package something this way.

On a side note, when (if) each of you guys comes to a game in Elida, please find me and introduce yourself. While I'm not the greatest at remembering names, I always like to meet the people that I'm talking to.

How are the medical liabilities issues being handled?
Does medical care coverage fall primarily on the individual player, the team or the league?
What about catastrophic injury coverage?

My concern is for the player that sees this as his first or last shot and then suffers a devastating injury that could affect their ability to financially take care of themselves in the future.

Just a couple of nights ago, we signed on our team physician, Dr. Sanko of The Orthopedic Institute of Ohio. Our primary concern is the players, everything we do revolves around them. Without quality, healthy players, we will not have an opportunity to succeed.

In addition, I have been speaking with a few insurance companies about options that we may have to cover the guys while they are under contract with us. I haven't come to any final decisions yet as to carriers or types of insurance, but I can assure you that it is high on our priority list.

I would hope that you would want all of that in place, even before try-outs, just as a cover-your-hiney measure. I hold no ill will towards you or your other investors and I wish you luck in your new venture, but without that basic foundation already in place I am dubious at best. Young people who are chasing their dreams are often the easiest to lead down the primrose path.

I think the last few posts will be telling on the validity of this team/ league. Many just see the players, games, all the obvious things. Start looking at the overall costs of running a team, which includes liability of the players, insurance and all the other behind the scenes costs, and they you end up charging at least $10 a ticket to cover your costs. It's not going to be easy.

Nothing against the Lima Locos here, but I think you're severely underestimating the talent level that's going to be on these teams. This is professional basketball, not college basketball with guys "hoping" to play professionally.

On a side note, when (if) each of you guys comes to a game in Elida, please find me and introduce yourself. While I'm not the greatest at remembering names, I always like to meet the people that I'm talking to.

Good luck. You may have a small group that appreciate this type of talent, but most would be just as happy going down to the local rec league or playground and watching that talent. You're going to have a tough time getting a family of four to shell out $40 for a basketball game.

After reading the posts on this thread and observing the overall interest in basketball at the high school level here in northwest ohio being at a high level even though it has dropped off, I have come to the conclusion with the economy being as is, that this venture into pro basketball doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of being successful long termed. In the short run there will be a honeymoon period and fans will check it out primarily out of curiousity. However in the long run, it will likely fade into obscurity and eventually disband because of lack of interest and fans. People just won't pay more then what high school tickets cost to follow players that they hardly know or have been out of the public eye for a period of time locally. Even with local sponsorship it is gonna be an uphill climb to say the least. Good luck with it however and perhaps I will be proven wrong, I just doubt it.

Wow. I hope not everyone thinks like you people, is the glass always half empty to you? Hopefully the real basketball fans in the area will take a shine to it and not be negative like you guys. Damn.

Way to give things a chance before they happen. Do you also sit around and bitch about how there's nothing to do in Lima all the time too?

In my reply I just stated my opinion, nothing more nothing less. No the glass is not always half empty, but I just came to my conclusion based on the realities of todays world on a local level. Part of the problem is that nobody out there wants to deal with the realities of todays world. The fact of the matter is that it is rough out there for the average Joe. Just coming up with the mortgage payment, the car payment, everyday household necessities like food takes a lot of money out of everybodys paycheck if there is one coming in. Add to that the cost of gas to drive to go to these games if there is any driving to do and you can appreciate the reality of a lot of peoples situation both long and short term. I truly hope I am wrong, but I doubt it. Pro basketball just will not be a success in Lima irregardless of who is on the team, it is just the reality of the situation.

I for one hope you're wrong. I hope more people don't take your defeatest attitude and write it off before they see it as a failure.

It's still going to be cheaper than taking the kids to cleveland, cincy, ft wayne or detroit to see a game....way cheaper.

Call me a skeptic but I don't think your comparing apples to apples. Who in their right mind would drive to any of those cities to watch a semi-professional game? Obviously if you are going to watch a Cavs or Pistons game you are going to pay alot more.....but the product that you are paying to see is much higher caliber than what you will be watching in Lima. I'm not wishing bad on the Explosion and I hope they prove me wrong but right now I agree with Dakota Green that this is going to be a tough sell in this economy.
