Wapak - 0
Kalida scored in the 74th min.
While Kalida was the better side, Wapak looked very good.
Game was chippy in the 2nd half. Wapak had a player sent off in the 78th min.

Absolutely NO sense of humor. Pathetic.
Whine, whine whine. Blame the officials. Nice try Carlos.

DISSENT,
So you're saying a Wapak player beat up on a Kalida player? What's this world coming too?? Is this a new era of passive Kalida players? Or are they just not as obvious as Wapak?!

This was absolutely a TERRIFIC game to watch. BOTH sides played team ball and were great!! Thought it was rather NICE the way it turned out. Both teams have A LOT of good qualities - during play AND in their sportsmanship. I was very proud of ALL the boys!!

I was at the game too. Kalida was not dirty in the least. Physical? Most certainly. The Kalida player certainly should've gone in the book with that horse collar, but if you watched play leading up to it, the Wapak player had him by the waist, then the jersey. The two officials called a respectable game, but they let Wapak latch on to jerseys for most of the game until a Wapak player almost disrobed a Kalida midfielder about 15 min from time.
Kalida looks better than last year, but the problem will be the same. Scoring. A few tactical things here and there: defense needs to support the attack more effectively, decision making in the final third (this was much better in the last 20 minutes).
Wapak looked surprisingly good and extremely organized on defense, but couldn't really sustain attacks. They had a couple of solid counterattacks, but not much outside of that. If Wapak can find some offense, they could make a run at the WBL.
All in all a very well played match until the last two minutes when Wapak had the player sent off.

No "should have" or "shouldn't have" in this game. It was a classy game between two bitter rivals with both teams leaving it out on the field. The game was a nail biter from opening kick to the final whistle.
The quality of play was way beyond the ability of both referees. The one referee was so far out of position on at least three plays, two of which quite likely cost Napoleon a goal when the ball bounced directly away from the play off of his body. The Napoleon fans were irate, as they should have been.
Napoleon has speed and quickness, to go along with a quality keeper. They opted for the long ball in the 2nd half which caused Defiance's youth and inexperience in the back to get caught behind the play many times. The DHS keeper made some wonderful saves, and the 4-leaf clover he had in his pocket certainly didn't hurt his situation any either.
The midfield for Defiance will be their strength throughout the year, and when the forwards learn that if they give the ball up at the proper time, they will get many more scoring chances. The youth in the back need to mature very quickly, as the WBL foes that Defiance will soon face have the speed of the Napoleon attackers but much more size. The same mistakes they made on Tuesday will not result as favorably in upcoming games.
Monday the DAWGS travel to Continental for the annual battle with the Pirates. This is always a great game, as many of these kids play together on the same team during the summer and have played together since they were 9 or 10 years old. This will be a great test of how the Dawgs will fare in the WBL, as Continental is strong and physical like most of the league opponents.

Riverdale was disappointing. I think they lacked their stud scorer. It showed. Riverdale was useless on offense; they couldn't even generate a signal chance. The midfield wasn't much better and the defense was porous and the goalkeeper was slow of foot.
Is it just me or is Ottoville's pitch TINY? They have a GREAT facility, but the field is so freaking narrow. Hard to play pretty soccer when there's simply no space to do so. End rant.
Ottoville overmatched Riverdale in every way. Ottoville didn't play pretty soccer, but they knew what to do when the ball gets into the offensive third and are pretty athletic. A nice goal on a thru pass in the first half and a nice header in the second off a throw in (see above paragraph, ugh). The other three goals I saw were rebounds, far post trash collection, but well finished none the less.
The Riverdale coach blew up late in the 2nd half after a hard foul on one of his players didn't draw a booking or worse. Shocked he wasn't sent off. I was halfway to the parking lot and I heard him ranting. I don't know if he was blowing up at the foul or the fact that his side was on the wrong end of a 6-0 scoreline.

Continental is not a good litmus test for WBL play. IMO Napoleon is a better side than Continental. It may be a bit of a rivalry, but the quality and speed of play isn't in the same ball park as you'll see from the quality WBL sides.

6-0 is a drubbing, HS or EPL...even more so when the opponent doesn't get a shot on frame...(I can't remember seeing a HS men's game where one team came back from 4 down...) Ottoville certainly didn't run up the score, but then again I could care less if they did. If you play that poorly, it's not up for the opponent to make you feel good about it. Ottoville played at least 18 players a significant amount of time and even threw some more kids in there in the 65th minute.
Ottoville's a decent side. Would love to see how they stack up against respectable competition.

Unfortunately, I am judged by many for these rare outbursts that this stupid game brings out of me. This is not the person that I am. These are also my students & a protective nature comes out. I'm embarrassed and need to be a man and suffer anything that is said regardless of what was in mind. I will not comment any further beyond the fact that I was in error, I know it & I need to live with the further hit on my character & I apologize to all that were there. Please know that this is not the person that I am but cannot undo the fraility of my human nature.
