St. Marys led 7-0 heading to the bottom of the eighth, only to see Van Wert bring the potential tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth before winning 7-4 Wednesday night at Smiley Park.

Lima broke open a 2-1 lead with eight runs over the fifth through seventh innings and went on to a 10-5 win over St. Marys in the District Two winner's bracket final Sunday afternoon at Simmons Field.

District 2 is a joke now days.

Sad is that baseball is down. District 2 used to have Lima, Bellefontaine, Van Wert, St. Marys, Celina, and Sidney in league play.

Van Wert, Celina, Bellefontaine, and Sidney have all dropped baseball.

Sidney hopefully will bring back their program...but that is not a sure thing.
I doubt Celina and Bellefontaine will ever bring it back.

Van Wert...over there I hear that Acme baseball comes first. The post shows up with only 8 players...why even come when you can't start a game unless you have 9 on the field.

Sad way to run a tournament...I hear rumblings that District 2 and District 3 may combine next year...who knows...Legion baseball is going to have to open up the way they do things or they are going to lose the program state wide...they already do not play state at Ohio University anymore...it will be interesting to see how it does being played in Lancaster this year.

Lima Ends Post 323's Season 6-3

St. Marys broke out to an early 3-0 lead, only to see Lima score the final six runs of the game as Post 96 advanced to the state tournament with a 6-3 win Wednesday night at Simmons Field. Jon Lowe of St. Marys was named the regular-season MVP while Lima's Mike Snider was selected as the tournament MVP.

Same story is coming out of Van Wert...and believe it or not Lima.

Players play...whiners quit. If you know of a team where the coach is 100% liked by every player on the team...and the parents...let me know...I would like to see that!!! LOL

In today's world the coaches have more frustrations than they did 20 years ago. Parents complaining, players complaining, field work, practice schedules, game schedules, media attention...in most instances NO PAY for the coach. He is doing it because he loves coaching and being around the game of baseball.

Real players will play for that coach...whiners whine...and then quit.

wow, who are you to rip on coach shoffner? i had him as a coach when i played for sidney legion years ago and he was one of the best coaches i have ever had! he taught me not only fundamentals but how to love and play the game the right way. he coaches legion ball voluntarilly!! u try running a team knowing you are not getting paid, and the only reason you are doing so is because you love the game! no one has any right to rip on a man teaching kids how to play baseball and to love the game.... baseball is a dying sport around the area and he is one of the few who lives for baseball 24/7

Billy is a great coach and a great guy...he, like almost every other coach I know, is probably tough to play for some times...but that is athletics and life.

Baseball is a dying sport in this area, both high school and summer...mainly because of basketball and football..there are many kids that used to play summer ball (acme or legion) all the time and were also stars in the other two (Todd Boeckman comes to mind), many of the coaches don't like to share anymore in the summer...hopefully this trend turns around soon!!!
