Who do you predict will win the D II regional semifinal games Thursday at Tiffin University?
Wapakoneta vs. Sandusky Perkins 2:00 pm start.
Defiance vs. Parma Heights Holy Name at 5:00 pm.

I will take Perkins over Wapakoneta in game one. Defiance over Parma Holy Name in the 2nd regional semi-final game. Sandusky Perkins vs. Defiance in the championship game. They have one common opponent. Mansfield Madison gave Defiance its only loss 7-1 in April on a very windy Saturday. Kime pitched against Napoleon. He was awesome. Madison lost the district final game to Perkins this past weekend 4-3. Perkins is top shelf also. If Kime pitches, I favor Defiance. If not, it is a toss-up. This could hinge on one play. I think it is Defiance year to play for a state championship. But, Perkins would be a worthy representative. Good luck to both teams.

As I learn more about Holy Name I have come to believe they are the real deal. As I understand it, they play a very strong schedule, probably the toughest schedule of any team in this regional. They have a very good pitcher in Tyler Bowditch and some good bats. Defiance will need to play their best to advance to the regional finals. Wapakoneta vs. Perkins is an intriguing match up. Wapak can hit the ball, but their pitching is suspect. Their defense can be a little shaky at times. Though I would love to see an all-WBL regional final, I think it will be Defiance vs. Perkins in the regional final.

Parmas ace has a nasty curve ball. Defiance traditionally has trouble with the curves. Parma has had some problems in the infield. If Defiance can draw some walks and keep up the sly baserunnng I think they will come out on top.

I believe Kime isn't going today since the district final got pushed back to Monday. So that would mean he would be there for the finals if we get there. But we have to get there first.

I see the Dogs going to state but anything can happen this time of year. Just feels good to be back to regionals where we belong.

Edit: Kime may be going against Parma now since it's been postponed.

It would still be his 3rd game in 9 days though, so we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if he does throw, but who knows yet.

Congratulations to Wapak on the 3-2 win over Perkins. Now if DHS can get past Parma Heights Holy Name, we'll have that all-WBL regional final I was hoping for. Looks as though Dace will be on the mound for the dogs today against Holy Name's ace. Should be a great game. 2:00 pm start.

Great day for the WBL! Good luck to both teams, but especially the Dogs. Time for that 3rd trip to state.

I look for Defiance to end their good-season,no-Columbus run today. With Walsh Jesuit out of this regional, lok for the dogs to overcome their recent WBL jinx today & head off to Columbus. Best news is the winner doesn't have to face WJ in the semis either I believe

I think you're right, I thought I saw that the winner gets the Jonathan Alder-Franklin winner in the semis.

Of course Johnathan Alder is undefeated and ranked number 1 in the state, so it's not like it's an easy road to the finals for whoever wins.

Wapak strikes first in the 2nd.

Redskins 1, Bulldogs 0 after 2.

Defiance gets runners to 2nd and 3rd, fails to score.

Wapak loads the bases with 1 out, fails to score.

Still 1-0 after 3.

Stop me if you've heard this before.

Defiance strands runners at 2nd and 3rd in the 5th.

Wapak strands the bases loaded in the 5th.

Still 1-0 Wapak after 5.

2 walks, a throwing error on a sac bunt attempt, a single, a walk, and a hit by pitch. I believe Defiance still has the bases loaded and no one out in the 6th.

3-1 Dogs.

Extended to 4-1 on a sac fly, then after another HBP Wapak gets a big DP ball to get out of the inning.

Headed to the bottom of the 6th with Defiance up 4-1.

Ironic that a misplayed bunt also played a huge part in the districts also, because that play in the Bryan/Maumee game kept the Dogs from having to beat Bryan's Wisler in the district finals, so yes, the monkey is now off the back of coach Held with all those ex-big-leaguers & college players with no trips to Columbus. Obviously getting Walsh Jesuit out of this regional played a big part also, but who knows, maybe Defiance can go down & beat them in the finals to say it didn't matter. One thing's for sure, nearly every school in Ohio, including many parochial schools, would be rooting for Defiance if that matchup comes along

Justin,
You might recall that coach Held took Defiance to Columbus and lost 1-0 in the semi-final game in Billingsley's junior season.

I'd love to see the Defiance-Walsh Jesuit final. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Each have to win on Friday against very good opponents. Neither one can just show up and expect to win.

I may have the make the couple mile trek down to Huntington and watch the boys play next weekend.
