Anyone wonder about some of our current staple products that may become extinct because of the technology age??

I have CBS Sunday Morning on & they're talking about printed books right now, which has been a pretty hot topic of late.....

Others I wonder about are; the printed news paper (has already had many companies go out of business, at least in paper printing, opting for online only), mail, CD's & DVD's........ All these things can be easily accessed online/downloaded & you don't have the product taking up physical space--which is a HUGE selling point for me! Not to mention all the tree huggers have to love it too!! tongue.gif wink.gif And watches & clocks...I hardly ever look for a clock, as I use my cell for the time & my watches I wear just to show off my bling! laugh.gif
It's just mindboggling & amazing to me how in my 'short' rolleyes.gif lifetime all the major changes that have come about.

How many of these things have you already left by the wayside?
Any others you can think of that in the near future may become things of a bygone era??

Checks

Good one; I agree..... Already basically are for me..... I've had the same box of checks I purchsed years ago & have plenty left....Thank goodness I don't have pay the exporbitant fee for them anymore, either!! (as I always have to add on the li'l sayings & custom 'icon' thingys (of course rolleyes.gif ) that always raise the cost of them) biggrin.gif

We gotta get there first. I'm gonna start a rumor that 1/1/11 or 11/11/11 is the end of the world, then watch all of the idiots freak out.

I'll say the newspaper. With most of the world using the internet, there's just not nearly as much need for it.

I think with Internet usuage in almost all homes now, that will def start taking over for most all things....people already shop online so they dotn have to go to the store, people dont read newspapers near as much....many more to come I am sure...

Things that will become obsolete in the near future? Hmm....

Land line telephones

Maps.

Camera film.

The Video store.

DVD players.

DVD's, CD's, etc.

Encyclopedias.

Lighters at concerts - Everyone will use the lights from their cell phones or lighter apps on their cells.

I would say land line phones in Homes are gonna be a thing of the past as soon as the oldest generation passes and the boomers become the elderly. The elderly right now are largely against cell phones just because they are afraid of technology in general. Many cant even use a computer.

But you will not see land lines in businesses leave anytime soon.

I hate to say newspapers - (because I work for one and ours did have subscribers increase) but the writing is one the wall for the industry, along with anything else printed (yes even phonebooks even though we get like 10 a year now)
privacy - (already obsolete)
talking to people - example texting, getting the annoying automated message when you try and contact a company about a problem
food made from scratch - I have really noticed a surge in stuff ready prepared.

Life is a gift...that is why it's called 'the present'

Food from scratch will ever go away...especially in the country.

Not as long as I'm around!

It's actually quite the opposite here......We rarely eat stuff that is already prepared or fast food.
