My kids got all kinds of awards in high school. Does any body remember them a few years later. Well heck yeah they do. I remember them and so do they. But nobody else really gives a crap. People get shafted on these awards every year, ( OR SO THEY THINK THEY DO ). Maybe there shouldn't be awards given out at all. There, I just solved the whole problem.

your are correct ,no awards but some kids work hard and try to get these awards. some just have it made

like i said soccer is over on to another sport sorrry if i offended anyone ,just speaking my mind ,i just hate to see the kids upset when they play thier hearts out all year and have thier hope up just to get let down, some boys played all year and got nothing and some played 1/4 of the year with honors .but thats life, the kids are facing a tough life after high school

alright, I know you are 1 of 2 people, but its time to move on, congrats on a good season, now its time for some bball.

Its just not cool to come one a message board and call out a coach for not getting awards. Lets put it this way, Steve has ass. coaches that help him, not saying they made any decisions, but I am sure they may have talked about it for at least a few minutes. So its not just Steve playing bad guy, if you deserved, then I am sure you would have gotten your name mentioned, or MAYBE you did, but didnt get voted in??

It sure it nice to have one of the best goalies around doesnt it?

I love sports message boards! I really do! They allow us a forum to contribute sports info onto others that we may not always be privy to. Many times message boards are an accurate forum, sometimes they are not; just gotta be able to "filter" the info using COMMEN SENSE!

As I read the initial posting for this topic, I cringed.

Every sport season we have League honors. X amount of 1st Team/2nd Team/Hon Ment get selected. Now, the way my meager math skills compute, not all student athletes will get selected. I know, I was trying to be funny, but it wasn't. Seriously though, there are always good players left off of League Honors. It is inevitable!

As a coach, you go to the League mtg with a gameplan to nominate certain players of your own for "certain" honors. Also, have a good idea of other League players that you will vote for. Where this get hard is when certain players have a bad game against your team. As a coach you begin to re-analyze that player vs. your player vs. other players. Then,,,,,, the mtg gets to be a bargaining session. "If you vote my player 1st Team, I will vote your border-line player 2nd Team". Yes, this happens alot.

Now, to the CHS parent. I do not live in Continental. I do not know who you are. I do not care who you are. I have ZERO attachment to this situation, other than wanting to offer some insight.
As a coach, one gets to see many sides/attributes/short-comings of a player that the public/parents/fans/other coaches do not get to see. How hard does this player "practice"? What does he bring to the "team" concept? Etc etc etc.
Again, as a coach you sometimes see a side of a student athlete that many people do not get to see, even moms & dads. So, when it come time to vote for players, maybe a coach does not vote as high for a particular athlete because of things that have happened off the game-day field/court/etc.

I'm sorry that your student athlete did not get selected for a higher award. I really am; I have had instances as a father and as a coach where I felt my son and other players were slighted. However, it is always gonna happen.

For one, that goalie is a damn good goalie. I have seen him play a few times. Secondly, if you are a player or a parent hiding behind a screen name to bad mouth ppl bc you can't do it in person you should keep it to yourself. Thirdly, Countywidehasbeen was NOT saying it could be personal, not even close. Don't over read ppl's posts. Every parent in every sport every year ALWAYS thinks their kid is the superstar of the team, and 9 times outta 10 it IS NOT the case. You can't just go in and nominate EVERY PLAYER on the team. The coach would get laughed outta the room. So, the coaches will talk to their other coaches and consult the score book done by OTHER H.S. kids and gather stats, as well as observe, again like Countywidehasbeen said, their attitude and whatnot in practices and how much they bring to the "team concept". All that goes in a big pot and gets mixed together and...*angels shine down from heaven*...the names of which you take to your league voting appear. Unfortunately, every SUPERSTAR can't be nominated. It happens the same way every year and will continue to happen for the rest of eternity. So, lastly if your kid or yourself were not put up for LEAGUE honors it IS NOT the end of the world. We aren't here to bad mouth other players, from YOUR OWN SCHOOL to boot, that were put up AND voted to 1st/2nd/H.M. by OTHER COACHES in the league just because our kids didn't make the cut. GET OVER IT. The world isn't coming to an end tomorrow.

Thank you...no autographs please...i will be here all week..smile.gif

Wow this is over a silly little award. I thought people took winning to serious, didn't know awards were this important. As a coach the only thing I worry about is the childs progression as a player and person. Don't measure a kids success through medals and trophies. Here is a good article that fits this topic. Player Evaluation

You could do as Continental's basketball coach did last year, nominate all 5 starters for District 8 honors

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT COACHES PUMPING UP THIER BOYS FOR LEAGUE HONORS? in continental we do not go by thier ability we make it personal ,some of our boys were sold out short due to player and coaches problems, personal problems should be put asside. coaches should be there for the kids. some of the boys would like to go to college to play soccer but did the coach help ?

The PCL soccer game doesn't cross over to the college level very well. Can't pronounce all of the foreign names in the college game.

ok, maybe your not, put some initials out there so i Know...ha! cool.gif

Not to dig up old posts. But, let me tell you the whole process is crap. I am an ex-coach as of this year, and the whole honors process from league to state has many flaws. From a coaches(ex) perspective it's all about who's your coaching buddies. Here's how it works....."hey bob, vote for my kid and I'll vote for yours" Or worse yet here's what happened this year....one coach spend half the year telling other opposing coaches to not vote for any of (specific coach's) kids cause he's an a-hole and his kids are misbehaved. How do I know this...I lived it..i was asked to do the same, which i did not do...but in the end it must have worked because not one single kid got honors..now this was a good senior ladden team that lost 2-3 games all year. They easily had 3 girls worthy, one was a no brainer. So, if you're worried about honors or worse yet, your kid's worried about it....STOP....it's not worth it! Enjoy the game and teach your kids to be good teammates not egotistical attention hounds. I will not post anymore information regarding this.
