I'm not reds fan but they probably do like they have for the last 5 years and have a good first 2 or 3 months. Then fall apart for some reason. So I highly doubt the reds winning the central div. Hope fully Griffey can produce for them so they can try to trade him to get rid of his contract that is holding the team back. cool.gif

They always flop because they don't have quality starting pitchers. They have plenty of offense, but their pitchers can only throw so many quality games before they start to slide, and that's what seperates the Reds from other great teams in the league. If they could just focus on starting pitching and get a solid rotation they would be pretty decent. They have more than enough offense right now, so the Pena/Arroyo deal will work out nicely, but they still need 2-3 more quality starters. If you remember, they did have one of the best bullpens in the league 5 years ago, but that has long since past and they have started over there once again, so now our bullpen needs help as well. We have enough young talent, Griffey is a great player, but he takes up way to much payroll, and we could get a few great young pitchers for him in a trade, but the Reds will never do it, and that's why they have been at the bottom of the league for a while now, they don't have pitching. You can have all the offense in the world, but if your pitching stinks, you will not make the postseason.

i agree that you can have offensive power but amount to nothing if no pitching....look at the red sox, they lost pedro, derek lowe and schilling pretty much all year, he never came back to full health and the sox did poorly in the playoffs now they are getting rid of their offensive power by letting damon go....good point redneck

This team has great young offensive talent, but that won't matter in a league where the pitching is just unbelievable with the Cardinals and Astros rotations obviously, but then Pittsburgh has a lot of great young pitching as well, and the Brewers have Peavy who is a stud, plus a great minor league system. The Reds are in trouble for a long time unless they trade some offensive firepower (Griffey for ex.) to open up the payroll a bit, and then either get a few experienced and proven major league starters, or acquire young, promising pitching prospects. The key to their whole situation lies with Griffey, not only because he is great player, but because he takes up a large part of the payroll, and other teams will throw in great packages to acquire him from the Reds because those teams have surplus starting pitching unlike the Reds.

The reds are my MLB team but recently...they suck, no 2 ways about it. Maybe if they had good pitching but i just don't see them above .500 this year.
I wanted to have a career in sports when I was young, but I had to give it up. I'm only six feet tall, so I couldn't play basketball. I'm only 190 pounds, so I couldn't play football. And I have 20-20 vision, so I couldn't be a referee. ~Jay Leno

Man, and I remember about 5 years ago everyone bashing on the NL Central. Now look. It's devestating. It's hard pressed to find a division with better starting pitching. Cubs staff, Cards staff, most of Houston, the young trio in Pitt, Ben Sheets...those are big time studs...notice Paul Wilson or Arroyo did not make the list...though Harang is in for a HUGE year...

To make this team better what would the front office need to do and who should they get? We all know pitching but who and what kind of deal?
