I love this team!

If the starting pitching continues....it could be a special year in Cincy. This team never gives up. This team is light years ahead of last years club.

I'm not into bsball at all, but, my grandma (whom raised me & grandpa too, before he passed at an early age early) was a huge fan of the Red's & she NEVER missed watching/listening to a game of theirs, so, therefore, I always root for them.... So, very nice to see them FINALLY doing well again! I know grandma is smiling! biggrin.gif

GO REDS!!! (on her behalf) smile.gif

Mike Lincoln must go!

Why is it that everytime you give one of these guys a two year contract they go out and suck? Get rid of him and let more of the younger hungrier guys play like Rosales and Hanigan, Maloney and Fisher.

The MLB Draft is today. Who are the Reds going to draft? Who should they draft? Does anyone even know anyone eligible for the draft?

Watch for this name in the first or second round, Chad Jenkins, Pitcher, Kennesaw Valley State, GA. Played for the Lima Locos last year and was a stud!

Let’s discuss this draft, and previous drafts, right here. Feel free to use this as an open thread to discuss the draft as it happens this evening, as well. Remember, the draft is going to be televised in part, on MLB Network.

The Reds took Mike Leake with the 8th pick in the draft, and the reaction from the Reds blogosphere has been uniformly positive. Here is what Red Reporter's Resident Amateur Baseball Czar Thundering Turtle had to say about him: "He’s athletic and produces. A three-sport athlete in high school, Oakland drafted him in the seventh round in 2006. He’s a strike thrower with a fastball ranging from 88-92, having touched 94. He gets plenty of movement. Leake thros from a 3/4 arm slot, which gives him armside run and sink on his fastball. He gets a lot of ground balls. His change and slider are improving. His cut fastball is above average. leake is smart. His stats: 14-1 1.24 ERA. 15 G, 116 IP, 66 H, 128 K, 18 BB."

I have no issues with the first pick, although Aaron Crow was still available I do believe. Then their supplemental 1st round pick seemed a little awkward when Tanner Scheppers was still available (and taken with the pick after). Oh well, they do the scouting and not me.

Reds are losers of four in a row and now all the sudden can't play defense. I guess you get that with young teams. I still love them way better than years past! Ryan Hanigan is a playa!

Well its been a couple of weeks since anyone posted so lets talk a little Reds Baseball! The Reds currently sit at 38-38 with their win three lose three line-up. As we draw nearer to the July trade deadline, the question becomes are we buyers or sellers? Given that we are still in the race in the worst division in baseball, I hope we are still buying come the end of July.

Here is a thought, Matt Holiday the former National Leaguer from Colorado that dominated in that ballpark and has been average since going to the AL and Oakland. They are trying to get rid of him and St Louis is rumored to be the front runner, ie Mark Derosa! Nice one tribe! Lets give the A's a former AL pitcher Bronson Arroyo and we will throw in their choice of former AL outfielders in the likes of Laynce Nix or Johnny Gomes. Heck we can give em Dickerson for that matter.

What about Edwin Encarnacion? He is apparently rehabbing and should be back sometime in the second half of the season. What do you do with this guy? He is injury prone and we are always waiting on that potential year after year. I liked the thought of giving Hernandez time at third and continuing to catch Hanigan. Defensively its a wash at third and Ryan Hanigan will be eventually known for his defense as much as his offense.

The Reds are .500 and it is always exciting to be still in a race come July 4th. But....we need offensive help and we need Volquez to get healthy and Votto to stay healthy and give me Matt Holiday at any cost!

Id rather see the Reds go after Alex Rios from the Jays. He is signed thru 2011(I think). The guy can hit and drive in runs and is a former AL all star.

The problem with trading is what are you going to give up? We are still a year away I think, so hurting our future for this year is unwise. Firing Dusty Baker would be the best thing you could do to help the Reds. He is awful.

unlike the Tribe, the Reds try to get it all out in a game or two instead of over the course of the entire season.

The Reds are done for 2009.
There, it's out.
The Reds were respectable for most of the first half, but the last few weeks have sent the team on a treadmill to oblivion.
The Reds are currently seven games under .500 and are in real danger of posting their ninth straight losing record.
There are two main reasons for this year's disappointing year.
First, after trading Adam Dunn, the Reds failed to replace him in the offseason.
Little ball is great in its place. But when you play in a bandbox like Great American, you need a few big boppers. Lance Nix, Chris Dickerson and Jonny Gomes don't fit that bill. All are nice fill-in spare-part guys. Jay Bruce was a huge disappointment before he suffered a broken wrist.
The Reds are hitting .247 as a team, second worst in the league.
Then, over the last month, the pitching has been inconsistent. Overall, the team ERA has ballooned to 4.35, which ranks 11th in the league. This was supposed to be the team's strength.
Bronson Arroyo has been very good or very bad all year, Aaron Harang is 0-7 with a 5.17 ERA in his last 11 starts since coming back to pitch after a two-hour rain delay to earn the victory.
It's time to back up the truck and send guys packing.
Don't be surprised if Harang or Arroyo is dealt for prospects. David Weathers and Arthur Rhodes could go, as well.
2009 is over.
It's time to look toward 2010.

I found myself in the weird position of rooting against the Reds in a game in which they didn't play the Tigers the other day. It was great to see Billingsley pitch and get the win for the Dodgers since they aren't on TV much around here.
