Just heard from my cousin in Leipsic and he said at the Continental vs Leipsic Jr High softball game, that the Continental coaches, fans (parents) and players were the worst he had ever seen ! Their pitcher complained "OUT LOUD" about almost every pitch she made. One of their fans told a Leipsic parent that they were sore losers and need to come to Continental to learn how to win and their coaches cursed very loudly, several times during the game. The fans and coaches comments to the umpire were so abrassive that the ump was crying during the game. And the worst sportsmanship ever....they laughed and made fun of a Leipsic girl that got hit by a pitch, she started to cry because it cut her across the knuckles and she had to leave the game. Is this common behavior in Continental?

Sounds extremely exaggerated. You "heard" was a good clue.

Hearsay is never a good thing to post as actual happenings. If all is true then yes I would say that is a bit much.

As a Leipsic parent who attended this game, I will attest to BuckeyeMan's accuracy of events. (This can be verified by any Leipsc fan in attendance.) In addition to the points made, the Pirate coach also told one of her players to "shut up and play" and when another complained of an injury she responded with "I don't want to hear about it". Sound like a positive role model? In addition, the Pirate players "screamed" their chants and cheers throughout the entire game, not for fun, but in an attempt to fluster the pitcher by screaming as loudly as they could with every Leipsic pitch, while banging on the dugout fence. The Vikings did not at anytime return the unsportsmanlike behavior -- their coaches can be very proud of their performance on and off the field!

Are you sure they were laughing at the girl that got hurt or something that was said by a player on the team? Then i would understand!

As a continental mom who attended the game, our girls are out there to win and they do not play bad.. it was ok when u vikings were winning then when we started to win u all got upset.. and maybe if u had a older umpire it wouldnt be bad calls on everything... and one of u viking parents came up to on of the continental parents and started yelling at her how good is that.. well that is all i have to say..

My sister plays for the Leipsic team, so I have a fairly accurate depiction of what occurred at that game. Most schools have high school girls as the umpires for these games. These aren't paid professionals who will be accurate on every play. There will be mistakes. Part of the game at this age group is to take the bad calls on the chin. Under no circumstances, EVER, should a team degrade an individual to such an extreme to reduce the young lady to tears. It is completely uncalled for.
Superkids4, there is nothing wrong with trying to win. Leipsic is out there performing there best with the desire of winning as well. It is important to remember to play with good character. Harmless chatter is a part of the game but there is no place for cursing and mocking of injuries.
These girls will be competing against each other in multiple sports for years to come. It is important for all of the athletes on the field, court, track, or whatever it may be to compose themselves with dignity and respect at all times.

Nothing was said about your girls playing bad, it seemed that by their actions they were behaving in an unsportsmanlike manner.
It is not possible to have top notch umpires for every game played. They are not available! Coaches have to find someone older than the players who are somewhat familiar with the game. The umpire for that game was in fact a high school player. I was at a boys 6th grade game in Continental two years ago and the umpire yelled out "I'm the mayor of this town and I'll have you escorted out of town if you give me any more guff." How proper is that? We all need to attend our kids game and encourage them whatever the score. Winning isn't the only thing that we want our players to get from their games. Parents sometimes put way to much into these games. Let's build sportsmanship, character, and friendships at this level, and hold off on the blood and guts part of it.
Also, this is not texting, so maybe we can post in proper grammer, with full words and sentences that make better sense.

NICE ENGLISH.......for a first grader.

The game was close throughout and the questionable sportsmanship started in the first inning and carried out to the end. it didn't matter who was winning. The actions and comments from Continental fans, players and coaches was unacceptable. As parents and coaches you need to set examples, GOOD examples.

well this is pretty sad you had to post this online which is access to pretty much everyone.the girls did not mean to make the cheers to sound bad && the coach tells her players that all the time because she knows they are tough! so you really need to mind your own business on that part. but i do agree they didn't need to laugh when the girl got hurt but a player on the field was pretending to ride a pony because are other player we were calling a cowgirl. you really shouldn't have posted this doing that to the girls when they did not mean anything out of the cheering or anything else.other teams do that also.just let it go, it's junior high games for crient out loud!

So when a high school girl is reduced to tears while umping because of consistent degradation, we can't come on hear to defend her without being considered overzealous, childish fans?
Maybe all of those coming on hear should just not post if they don't approve of these comments.

If the girl umpiring doesn't have the guts to warn the coach, then they need to find someone else, I've been in the situation before on how it's very hard to find someone to ump the games for Jr. High, but if you're going to do it, do it right and take control of the game. Also in the jr. high summer games over hear you're not aloud to distract a pitcher while in the act of pitching, don't know if it's the same with softball or not?

Umpires calls, they get one look. the pitcher has to pitch the ball where the ump is calling strikes. Not to her spots expecting that call. As for the chanting,( come on people) it has been going on in ball for years, to rattle pitchers at all levels. As for the fans from both schools. first Continental fans conplaining bout the calls, the Leipsic fans whinning bout it after they lost. To give up that many runs in one inning you usually get beat.

The Continental girls were laughing at a story, it just was at the time the girl from Leipsic got hit. Looks like they were, but all all sense no one laughs at a hit player. Only the player who was hit,,, later..

Afew years back the jr high girls team went unbeaten for two years during the season. They never won their tournment. This behavior may be an attempt to better their record. IDK. But Blood is thicker than water..................lol

Just a little reminder about umpires Anyone who goes to softball/baseball games knows people always complain about
the umpire belive it or not when people come to Continental and your sitting in the stands you hear all kinds of complaints about
the umpire do we make a fuss about it on the internet NO!!! I think the only unsportsman like conduct was from the parents not the kids
If you look at the girls they are a great group of girls and very friendly so last but not least Good Luck Ladies !!
