That is precisly why to read about it, (with apologies to those who are talented and enjoy it) those of us who love high school football have watched it invade and take numbers from the sport we enjoy and weaken it, example Elida, once a powerhouse in the WBL, now a doormat! So many schools have buckled to the pressure from mommy who is afraid her son will get injured playing football and put the program in and the school that may not be big enough to do either justice. Soccer use to be a recess game, phs. ed. class or neighborhood fun. Now it is rammed down our throat at every level and it just does NOT have the national interest that other sports have. The world cup, Beckam the womans team was always the thing that would finally take it over the top in popularity, but it doesn't happen. The national interest is just not there!

wow!!! kids didnt want to play football... big deal. let the kids do what they want. lets take a peak at how many kids do one sport even though they could and should be playing two or even three. atleast the kids that play soccer are trying to do something that the love and care for, instead of nothing. and as a person that has played both football and soccer, they are both very physical. just because in soccer you dont just go for the man (all the time) doesnt mean you have any less or greater chance of getting hurt.
if you dont like it turn the channel... no one is making you watch it. just like when i see an nba game on tv i turn the channel. its really tough to move my finger or for some of the old gentlemen turn a knob.

i agree with one thing that you have said... soccer has been given every chance but it for the most part has never been accepted in the USA. it will never be fully excepted, and we are all ok with that. since when is elida a small school? if you have a problem with it take up with your school board not those on the internet that have no say in anything just like you.

You will have to show me where I said Elida was a small school, don't know what you are talking about. I said soccer depleted the numbers in football at Elida and hurt their football program. I also stated that now many smaller schools are now wanting to begin soccer and they are just not big enough to do every sport that someone may enjoy justice.

WBL Records as follows:
0-9 five times
1-8 five times
2-7 two times
3-6 three times
4-5 five times
5-4 one time
6-3 two times
7-2 one time in 1995
While since 1990 Elida has won or tied for the WBL title 7 times. I do see in 81 and 82 they finished second and first...
Your argument is weak 40time, because the nation hasn't taken to soccer we should just abolish it altogether because it hurts football programs? Fact is many kids who play soccer would not play football instead. The world cup is the only sport to rival the super bowl in worldwide viewership.

So what you are saying is that you are intimidated by soccer. Soccer comes in and the kids wanna play which takes away from your sport that you wanna see kids play. Therefore you are threatened by i tand do not like it. you want football to remain the great sport at your school but kids are taking an interest in soccer. and previous posters are exactly right. Soccer is more of a mans game than football. Football you wear all that padding and have all that protection where in soccer you have virtually none and people run into each other and knock each other down just as much. not to mention if you are goalie you slide in after a ball with ppl kickign at you and have ball blasted at your face. AND soccer is a full 40 minutes, 10 minute break then anothe full 40 minutes...no stopping. and you are not in one position...a defender can end up playing up front awhile, a forward playing midfield and a midfielder defender...anyone has to pla yany position....and how many people use their feet every day in a skillful way other than walking??? not many...now how many ppl use their hands everyday to do skillful stuff...everybody does....having to use your feet instead of your hands takes a lot of skill....where as all football is, unless you are throwing or catching the ball, is running into somebody else with not a lot of actual talent involved. not saying beign smart isnt involved with blocking and such. soccer you have to be smart and talented to play....football you dont need to be nearly as talented or smart...ive played both so i know. didnt play football in high school but still....soccer is much more difficult...its a great game

just gonna throw this out there all the kids that joined the PG soccer team started out playing football, they couldnt take the conditioning or the work and dedication football takes so they took the easier road and played soccer last year and honestly i think its good because a football team doesnt need people that weakly minded, you gotta be mentaly tough to play football and obviously people who cant make it in football turn to socer...
