Not sure who Grove has coming back. I believe they did lose their pitcher to graduation? The Pirates have a bunch of returning starters though. The entire outfield will be back (Bradley, Doenges, & Brown), shortstop (Tegenkamp), first /third base (Holtsberry) & pitcher (Hanefeld).

I gotta go with the Pirates! Hope Jess H keeps a healthy arm -- Pirates REALLY need to get some other pitchers going.

Does Ottoville have enough to play this year? I know last year they were close.

Whitney Ellerbrock is consistant around the plate. Just not much speed yet. Cambria Grime has the arm strength just needs the playing time, so she can relax. Ky Holtsberry has filled in for Jess, does a fine job. The thing is she can play so many more positions than pitcher. I think she will fill in at second nicely. Cambria has played every position except catcher.

Sure Jess can play other positions, but she is an excellent pitcher with fantastic speed. Obviously her #1 position. Good to hear there are some other new ones coming up. They have a lot of players with some nice talent -- should keep everyone on their toes to keep their starting positions! Have to really work hard and smart!

I think coaches Eding and Streicher will have another GREAT year! Looking forward to it.

Cambria Grime-third base, pitcher
Stephanie Burke-catcher or first base
Whitney Ellerbrock-second base, pitcher.

These are some of the sophomores coming up to varsity.

I think TBF may have been talking about Kyliegh being able to play multiple postions. No need for Jess to do anything but throw smoke!

Totally agree -- Jess #1 pitcher, but she will need a break now and then. CanNOT overthrow her, I don't want a pitch count or anything like that, but if others can get in and throw some in a game situation it would be great.

Multiple people in multiple positions is fantastic.

Pirates are definitely the team to beat. I see them as pre-season pick as PCL Champs.

The Lady Pirates are definitely going to be the team to beat this year. thumbup1.gif

Jess has been working very hard to get stronger and improve her game.

The only weakness I see is finding a strong enough catcher to fill McKean's shoes.

Other than that, the Pirates are going to be a very well rounded team this year.

They have a tremendous amount of talent.

Totally agree Bucks. There is alot of talent this year. With not enough girls for a JV team,Coach S.& Coach E.are going to have plenty of girls to fill each position.I agree with the catching situation,McKean did an excellent job. Steph Burke& Keisha Holtsberry both got quite a few innings in behind the plate last year on JV.They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but both are very fine catchers.Keisha has caught for her sister since they both began playing and has also caught for Jess in the summer league.Steph has caught for Ky in the past and is catching Jess in practice this year. I am really looking forward to watching all the girls play it should be a very exciting season!!!! thumbup1.gif thumbup1.gif Good Luck Lady Pirates!!!!!

How many innings will Jessica be allowed in their scrimage games in late march? If it is dry (enough)...lol. I would allow Kyleigh, Whitney and Cambria innings in these games. It will help the confidence of all of them. Cambria has the speed, is spotting the ball pretty well for only pitching very little last year for the jv team. I really wouldn't worry to much on the catcher issue. If her knees hold up Stephaine Burke will be fine. She spots the target, our pitcher hit it she'l be fine. I know they won't do it every time, just concentrate on target release . So Lets get ready for those early games fans... March 24, 26 and 28...

Yes Ottoville does have a team this year. And yet again barely only wth 13 players wit two already who can't play because of injury. It doesn't help the track team takes all the good players away from the softball program when the softball program only has 13 girls while the track has about mid 20's

Correction: The track team is not taking away good players from the softball team, softball players are choosing to run track over softball because the softball team is such a joke in Ottoville. nerd.gif nerd.gif

well the only thing i don't understand is why pay 75 dollars and not do something in every meet. why not pay 75 dollars and actually get to play in a varsity game. And other than that there are about 5 girls on the track team that wanted to do both. wich the softball program doesn't mind its only the Track coach that don't want it. If they knew ottoville wasn't gonna have a softball team program then why build the new dimond. The track team needs to respect the softball program also.

Well if i can remember right Ottoville's girls cross country team did go to state this year, and usually if you run cross country you do track with it. Maybe that is the reason for all the unsuccess of the Softball team.
