Well its time to get this thread back on track.....It's the Monday before SuperBowl Sunday and the betting line has stayed pretty much the same thru last week with the Arizona Cardinals getting 7 points vs the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both teams should be relativly healthy going into the game and I haven't heard anything about the weather being a problem like it was a few years ago when the game was in Miami and Indy won in a rainstorm.

Seven points seems like an awful lot given how the Cardinals have played thru out the playoffs. The Cardinal offense is averaging like 30 points and the defense has been playing very well in creating turnovers and getting to the opposing QB. The Steelers allow alot of sacks and Big Ben will turn the ball over once in awhile. The question to me is, can the Steelers get to the QB or will the Cardinal coaches be able to scheme against their number one defense. The other question is, how many points can the Steelers score if the Cardinals find a way to move the ball. Seven points seems like a lot.

Vegas is smart and always makes money. I think that once again Vegas wants all of us amatuer gamblers to take that high powered Cardinal offense and the points. They have been the Underdog in all three playoff games by spreads of 4, 10, and 4, with two of those games at home. Talk about no respect.

Does Vegas really think that the Steelers can hold the Cardinals to say 10-17 points and score 20-24 themselves? I just don't know.

I will post my pick on Friday Evening after everyone gets their paychecks on Thursday.

Call the Arizona Cardinals underdogs. Call them a lost cause to pull off yet another upset victory. As far as the Cardinals are concerned, call them whatever you want.

The NFC’s representative in Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Raymond James Stadium is using every perceived slight as motivational fuel heading into kickoff, the Arizona Republic reports.

“I’d prefer to be the underdog every time,” center Grey Ruegamer told the Republic. “If you use it right, it’s a powerful force. And it’s so much sweeter when you win.”

Added Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt: “It’s been tough, because every time you turn on the TV or read something, it wasn’t very good. You don’t have to look hard to find something that would motivate us.”

One of those digs came courtesy of Showtime’s Inside the NFL host Cris Collinsworth, who referred to the Cardinals as “maybe the worst playoff team of all time.”

That was prior to the Cardinals’ impressive NFC title game win over the heavily-favored Philadelphia Eagles.

A recent video game simulation of the Super Bowl by Madden NFL 09 had the Steelers winning 28-24. At least the computer version was close, though.

“Fine with me,” defensive lineman Bryan Robinson said. “We’re going to hype it up like we’re 20-point underdogs.”

Just for the record and we’re in no way advocating any gambling, the Steelers have been installed as seven-point favorites.

more from ProFootballTalk.com

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger no longer holds a grudge against his former offensive coordinator, Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Roethlisberger went out of his way Monday to shower praise on Whisenhunt, who ran the Steelers’ offense the last time Pittsburgh was in the Super Bowl. This came on the heels of Roethlisberger snubbing Whisenhunt by not shaking hands prior to a 2007 game against Arizona and later sending a text to his former coach to apologize for his behavior.

“Coach Whis was awesome for me,” Roethlisberger said upon the Steelers’ arrival in Tampa for the big game. “Whether on the golf course or the football field or meeting rooms, he was a very good mentor for me. He really helped me become the player I am today. I’m really proud and happy he’s here and that I’m getting to play against him. I just hope that I can beat him.

“Coach Whis was great. He never tried to change who I was. He really just kind of helped me and taught me the offense. One of the first things he said was, ‘I’m not going to change your style of play, the way you play, because I like the way you play.’ You have to respect a guy like that.”

Yet, it wasn’t so respectful or friendly in 2007 due to a rift spawned by Roethlisberger getting angry over a “innocuous” comment by Whisenhunt after he left the team.

Whisenhunt chalked up some of Roethlisberger’s struggles in 2006 to the quarterback’s infamous motorcycle accident where he neglected to wear a helmet. Although Whisenhunt was making the statement to prop up his former protege, Roethlisberger was offended.

“I don’t agree with Whis,” Roethlisberger said in response to the comment. ”There were a lot of things I didn’t agree with Whis about, and that’s another one.”

Isn’t it nice how being in the Super Bowl and wanting to avoid further controversies prompts everyone to get along with their current or former offensive coordinators nowadays?

First, Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin and offensive coordinator Todd Haley are chummy after their ugly NFC title game confrontation and now Roethlisberger and Whisenhunt are on good terms again.

Whatever happened to those Super Bowl weeks filled with rancor? Quick, somebody start talking some trash. Just kidding.

I have decided that I am not going to wait until Friday to give you the SuperBowl lock. I will give it to you now so you can take your money and double it up in these tough economic times. The playoff prognostication record stands at 8-2 to this point. You should be swimming in extra cash!

Okay, here is the breakdown: The Steelers are the prohibitive favorite (7 pts) to win in Tampa on Sunday. 3 out 4 sportswriters and players have given their vote of confidence to the Steelers, if at least you watch or listen to ESPN tv and radio. The weather should be decent, everyone is healthy enough, and the Steelers will likely have as much of a home field advantage in Tampa as you could have. The Steelers also boast having 30 some players with previous SuperBowl experience, while the Cardinals have something like six. In two computer analyzed games, the Steelers won 27-20 and also 24-20, with the first score coming from a Las Vegas on line gambling site. Naturally a push!

Everybody and their brother likes the Steelers to win the game no question but has anyone given consideration to this......The Steelers have an statue QB and rely on the running game and defense. The Cardinals beat the favored Falcons and their vaunted running game. The Cardinals beat the favored Panthers and their vaunted running game and the Cardinals beat the favored Eagles and their vaunted defense which blitzes at least as much and as good as the Steelers. Against Philly, the Eagles blitzed Kurt Warner something like 18 times in 30 pass attempts. During those 18 times, Warner had a QB rating of plus 90%. The Cardinals have old Steeler coaches who were Steelers the last time they were in the Superbowl. The Cardinals are a much better team than anyone gives them credit for because three forth of america never saw them play until now.

Jump on the bandwagon like everyone else if you want to but I am taking the Arizona Cardinals and the 7 points for two very important reasons. 1) a smart man once said that 5% of the people have all the money while 95% are chasing it. I think the 5% have their money on the Cardinals. and 2) I freaking hate the Steelers and I will not pick them nor have to root for them in any SuperBowl. The cheated to beat the Seahawks a few years ago and now it is payback time........ take the Cardinals +7!

The 2008 NFL Playoffs are history and the Great Gumshoe, the finest prognosticator in all of the land went a steller 9-2, once again predicting the SuperBowl by taking the Cardinals and seven points. Congrats to Slice and the Steelers who if had been reading this would be rich beyond their wildest beliefs, I however for all my greatness only made ten dollars for all my work and that was only on tonites game.

My final NFL related prediction for this season is that I will continue to root for the Browns despite their ineptness and vomit in my mouth everytime someone reminds me of the Steelers seven superbowl wins.
