Gumshoe's NFL Playoff Prognosticatons

Here's hoping the Cardinals can pull out the NFC championship and then the Super Bowl. Regardless, the NFC team needs to be the winner. The Steelers are one of the most despised teams in the NFL due to their reputation as "cheap shot artists." NFL fans anxiously await watching Hines Ward get de-cleated and knocked cold during some game. And, of course, with the Ravens pulling their disappearing act from Cleveland, and of course being home to Ray Lewis, they are not exactly well thought of either.
Go Cardinals.

So the SuperBowl will match the Pittsburgh Steelers vs the Arizona Cardinals. The talking heads will be all over the Cardinal Coach being an ex Steeler coach and Kurt Warner going to his second superbowl with a different team, Larry Fitzgerald went to Pitt, superbowl QBs, Mike Tomlin, Pass attack vs defense, two weeks of hype.
The Steelers will likely be the favorite in Tampa but right now, I sure like the Arizona Cardinals. And now that the Cards are going to the SuperBowl, there are now only five teams left in the NFL who havent made the big game....can you guess who has been at it the longest? The Cleveland Mangini's!

A Pittsburgh - Arizona Super Bowl? I don't know. I think the league will be pulling hard for an Arizona win. They don't need another Super Bowl victory by a team that is probably the most cocky, arrogant, and dirtiest playing team in the league. What to watch for? Hopes that Hines Ward is knocked senseless.
This will be a tough game to get excited about.

Being an underdog hasn't hurt the Arizona Cardinals so far this postseason. They'll have to overcome that stigma again in Super Bowl XLIII as Vegas oddmakers have installed the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers as 6.5 point favorites in the game.
Six-and-a-half points seems more reasonable than many recent Super Bowl lines, particularly given the added "tax" that a team with a big national following like the Steelers usually get in such contests. It wouldn't be surprising to see the line move a little toward Pittsburgh over the coming days.
Arizona was a playoff underdog in each of its three NFC games, including today against the Eagles when the Cards were given four points by many oddsmakers. In the divisional playoffs, the Cardinals were getting 10 points for their trip to Carolina. The lack of respect for Arizona was nothing new. In May the Cards were a 50-1 shot to win the Super Bowl. Even at the start of the playoffs, the odds were long for Arizona. Kurt Warner and company were a remarkable 40-1 to win the whole thing just three weeks ago.
The over/under for the Super Bowl opened at 47 points.

If the spread stays in the 6.5 to 7 range, the majority of non questioning bettors will take Arizona and the points. When everyone gets their money invested on the Cards +7 , the hook will be set. Unless something happens over the next two weeks, like BigBen caught in a prostitution ring or the steeler defense gets deported, Gummy the Greek will be taking the Steelers and giving the points! Bet em like its the WWE and you are sure to make money!

In SuperBowls where a team has been favored by seven or more points, +7,(Steelers), the favorite is 11-9-2 against the spread.
However, the favorites, (Steelers), are 17-5 straight up when the spread is that high.
So one can say from history that the Steelers are the overwhelming likely outright winner of the SuperBowl but no better than 50/50 against the spread, if the spread is at 7 or above.
