Hey Labatts,

Just wondering if you have bowled in the state tournament in Cinci, and if so how did it go with that shot they have out this year?

Not too good here.

Nope, fiirst year in awhile I haven't. I heard it was a little tougher shot and not the usual house shot. I think it should be this way for bigger tournies to help separate the good bowlers from the house bowlers. I just had a little one in March and did not bowl much the second half. Finished the year with a 211 ave. which I am pretty content with and our team won both halves of the League so we did not have to have a roll off on Monday Nights.

Happy to report that Phil Austin was just inducted into the Lima Bowling Association Hall of Fame. As to Norada Lanes bowlers winning the majority of handicap bowling tournaments, they will continue to do so as long as the Association is putting out the Pro shot for all their tournaments. This Pro shot is bringing the 210 and 220 average house bowlers down to the l70 average and with no handicap they are not going to win anything. I understand that next year the tournaments will be bowled on house conditions and you will see the Norada bowlers unable to be competetive. With the house shot you must be young, strong, and not know how to bowl - just throw it long, hard, to the right (Or left for lefthanders) and hit the bumpers. There are a few bowlers that can score on any condition (they know who they are).

Dont talk about Norada bowlers, do you think that they care what the conditions are like? all they do is throw the ball and whatever works, works. Im pretty sure that alot of them dont even know anything about oil patterns, and the really good ones do, i bet that they will still do just as well. I guess that we will have to wait and see next year, but until then dont make any quick judgements.

I wondered if the ada meant Ada.

yeah the ada meant Ada, it is called Norada Lanes because it is just North of Ada. It has been named that ever since the late great Dave Parshall owned it. And his son Dane is one of the best bowlers i know. Im very very close friends with the owners of Norada lanes now, and i must say that is a great place and i also second that it is the toughest conditions in the state. You could hit the pocket perfectly and you still might not get a strike.

If you havent been there since its re-opening in 2003, i highly suggest that you do go there, because it has change dramatically on the inside. ( I actually helped re-model the whole place )

And there has only been 2 perfect games bowled there since its re-opening, and those to people were Dane Parshall and James White. And that is including all the hot shot lima bowlers who have bowled here in the tournaments that norada has hosted. If that doesnt speak to how difficult the lanes are, idk what else does.

Well, a new bowling season has started and once again Norada bowlers have dominated the first LBA tournament. When I made the comment that once the tournaments started using house conditions and not the PBA oil patterns then Ada bowlers would not be competitive. I didn't consider the fact that the Norada house shot is tougher than any PBA oil pattern they put down. Congrats to Gene Sexton!

I bowl with Gene he is very good and this
"Obviously you've never bowled at Hamler Lanes. Now there is a real test of skills. "
I doubt It I love Norada because since I have been bowling there my average around other leauges Kenton, Bluffton has been going up an average of 10 pins a year. And I started bowling a lot again 3 years ago at a competitive level. Norada is a tough place to bowl. you can hit a good pocket shot and have a pin slide to the next slot. smile.gif

I would sincerely suggest you make it to Hamler sometime. This shot is not easy at all. Then after that head to Leipsic on the way by. If you get lucky you may find some type of oil pattern there but doubt it since he hand applies it. I know Leipsic very rarely ever has a 200 average in the whole house and I think only maybe 3 300's but I will have to check the wall of fame next time I am over there.

Jhnastn, the comment on Norada being tougher than most PBA shots puzzles me. If it is truly that tough then there is probably no one with 200 average or higher over there. If they are then they should be on the tour making some cash. Until you have bowled on one of the true patterns put out by PBA's oiling machine on the lanes don't make assumptions base on what you see on TV. I bowled on a senior pattern after my dad's shift was completed a few years back and it was still pretty tough even after they were through opening it up.

I am in no way taking away anything from Norada but simply saying that it seems the house is being over exagerated a bit. Do any of you guys travel around and bowl in the NWO on Sundays? Just curious as this will give you a better idea on what type of shots are spread out all over NW Ohio rather than just the Lima area.

There have been some big tournaments in lima recently. Is this a sport that people have forgotten about. Did anybody hear about the people from norada lanes winning a majority of the money at the city tournament a few weekends ago. If anyone wants to talk about bowling be my guest. I would appreciate some comments.

Has there ever been a better bowler in Northwest Ohio than Don Boyed? I don't think so.

When you say bowling schools, are you referring to college or talking of transferring? OG has a pretty good program that is close to you. I am not familiar with any from Lima though. As far as colleges, I am not sure of any close that have that as a sport.

UNOH in Lima may add bowling in the very near future, when we were there for a visit last summer the rep said it was in the works.

Don has been a stature in NW Ohio along with Emilio Mora. Both have won their fair share of title's over the years. Now Emilio's son is taking the reigns and making a name for himself on the PBA Regionals. You will see Sr. more on the PBA SR. tour I have a feeling since he just retired recently.

Did for a year before college. I believe city tournaments were at Holiday that year too. Being new to city tournament that year, it took me quite a while to get my shot down. Struggled badly in my first team event, was OK in doubles, came alive(at least for my average) in my 2nd team.

I believe I finished one game out with 6 in a row after struggling at the start. Ended up with a 550 on a 160 average. Definitely can't say I let the team down.

Well, we are in second Handicap but first actual in team after the first week. See if we can stay in the top 5 after this week. We shot 3397 actual with games of 1093, 1152 and 1152. We don't get much handicap with a 1094 team average!! whistling.gif
