osu fan...to say that OSU needs better Linebackers is ridiculous. Over the past few years the buckeyes have produced some of the best LB's to come out of college (see Hawk, Schlagel, Carpenter, Laurenaitis (sp?)) along with some other good ones (Grant wasn't bad, and with Homan coming up who knows)). All I'm saying is that you can't say our Linebackers haven't been good.

Defensive Backs have been down though, I will agree there. It's hard to expect a lot out of them when you have guys like Ashton Youboty leaving their Junior years though.

I know it has been awhile but the LB corp you are talking about have not suited up for Ohio State in what will be 3 seasons. The LB's on Ohio St. currently are too slow getting to the ball. Period. Until the LB's have better recognition and have the foot-speed to get their, their defense will continue to struggle against the offenses of Florida and LSU.

Ashton Youboty is/was not that good of a cover corner.

The layover excuse is hogwash. Sure its a few more weeks but they are college football players at an elite level... think about what your saying. It gives players time to recover from injury and freshen there legs. Coaches have more time to study and critque there own players. It doesn't matter who you play ( to some degree) as long as you run your plays correctly and efficiently. Ohio state fans are always full of excuses when they are let down, just face it.. Ohio State and the big ten are weak and not competitive.

If the layover is no biggie, then why do teams, no matter what level, make the biggest improvement from week one of the season to week 2?

The Bucks play USC very early in the season........a loss to USC will not kill OSU's chances....the way the BCS or any poll for that matter is set up....if you are going to lose....lose early because there is plenty of time left to make up for that loss.......actually...OSU was very lucky last season.....losing late and making the big game........

I hope they do make it.......and have to go against the SEC again......3 losses in a row should quiet a few of those obnoxious OSU faithful in Cbus!!!!!!!!

A really, it has been 9 straight losses to the SEC and it has not shut up the State of Ohio. What makes you think #10 would be any different? What makes you think it is only Columbus and no the state?

Maybe you guys aren't seeing it.
OSU looked stupid in losing to Florida & LSU.
My point about Michigan & Illinois is that neither were that good. That should have been an indicator to you but it wasn't.
People conceded that Illinois was good and then they got exposed as they should have in Columbus. Everyone thought Michigan in 06 was good and then they got mauled by USC.

Just who is it that is so great that you've beaten recently?
Michigan? Texas? Kansas St? Notre Dame?

Didn't Michigan beat Florida? The Michigan team at the end of the season was a different team than the one in the beginning of the season or would Appalachain State have been in a tie-breaking situation to play in the SEC title game?

As far as the LB corp. They are too slow to be light in their shoes. That is why teams can pound the ball on us or they can spread us out and run past us. Our LB's are not fish nor fowl. (Extending a Woody Hayes statement regarding DE's) And our DC has not been putting our defense in good situations to be successful. OSU really needs a new DC but since that won't change because of the closeness of Heacock and Tressel. A new LB corp that can do what the DC needs to be done is the next best thing.

LB Ross Homan was redshirted last year so he'll be a sophomore this coming campaign. Homan's not slow and I look for him to be an added plus next year. He's been waiting in the wings for the past couple of years and perhaps this is his time to shine. Seems to happen at Ohio State every year. New faces pop up and produce.

Ross Homan did not redshirt last year. He played in the YSU, Akron, Washington & Minnesota games. He can petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt once his eligibilty is exhausted though. Ross was primed to split time with Marcus Freeman last year before turf toe took it's toll.

Curtis Terry redshirted last year for the Buckeyes. He didn't fully recover from his high ankle sprain until late in the year. By that time, Ohio State didn't want to burn his eligibilty.

Homan is not fast for big time college football. If he intercepts a pass or returns a fumble, he lacks the speed to take it the distance. Hawk does not. I think that happened his freshman year, I'll look to see if I can find it again on tape.

I really don't know how much Ross will make an impact this year as far as speed goes, but I know with the Sweat and Sabino there is a lot of speed with those two so it appears that the linebacking corps for the future should be very speedy. I really hope that we can take down USC and get another shot at the NC and the SEC.

It's rumored that speed coordinator Butch Reynolds has left the Ohio State football team after winter conditioning.

Butch is said to be starting a training facility in Columbus with a group of former players.
