Tribeguy, I heard that Bill and your dad are going to heat the bottom of the fence and get a crane and try to pull it up. Not sure when they are going to get a chance to do that with all this snowing we're supposed to and are getting today and tomorrow. Bill told the team that if they can't get the fence up they will just play 27 away games. Andy Long didn't catch on that that would take them to state. Does that surprise you?

It doesn't surprise me at all that Andy would have no clue. That's wat makes him such a special kid though. Should be interesting to see what happens with it all.

I saw the ice/wind damage to the backstop at Loramie's ball diamond. It will make for some interesting ground rules and gives the diamond some added character. All kidding aside, nature really caused some damage. I'm sure a repair plan is already in the works, but I hope they do not lose any games as a result. That is two times now in 4 years that we have experienced an extrordinary amount of ice damage in our area. Gotta love Ohio weather.

Due to ice accumulation Tuesday evening followed by strong winds, the entire 1st base line fencing got wiped out. This includes the backstop to where it angles behind the plate to the dugout, where there is netting above the dugout supported by poles to the end of the dugout. It looks like it started on the end and just blew over until it met the bend of the backstop behind the plate. I hear no poles snapped, but are bent.

WOW WOW WOW it looks like the start of Houston's season will be just like the end of their basketball season.......KEVIN ROETH broke the same foot that he did during basketball. There goes that .515 BA. So who does Houston have to step up?
1-Gordon........10th
2-Holthaus......10th
3-Cornett........11th
4-A. Grillot......10th
5-B. Grillot......12th
6-Keihl............10th
7-Curl.............12th
8-Whittaker.....12th
9-???

I'm sure Roeth won't be out the entire seasons, but any loss is going to hurt. for the 9th spot probably Ryan Mullen or Brent Byrum. Who knows though.

Without Roeth I think that Houston will really struggle. They're relatively young though, so maybe the experience will help them. Without that .515 BA the offense will certainly struggle.

Glenn Brown is the new head coach of the wildcats due to Maier becoming the principle. That's Houston's fourth different coach in four years, that's gotta be tough for the boys to adjust to.

Wow I didn't realize this will be the 4th coach in 4 years. That has to be rough on the kids.

The fence at loramie is still a mystery at this point. Not sure how its going to get fixed, but do know the first scrimmages have been moved to away games.

And now speaking of scrimmages, who plays who this week? I know that Loramie opens saturday at St. Henry, but other than that know nothing.... What's coming up and who's looking good?

Drove by Russia high school today and seen the baseball team out on the parking lot. My son said they have been out all week. Now we just need to get the fields ready. Has anyone else made it outside??

Loramie has been outside weather permitting. They have been able to get on the field because the fence stops about 5 feet from the line. However some of the guys said it gets annoying when they try to chase after foul balls.

I was at practice last saturday, and I could see how it'd be frustrating to retrieve all of those foul balls. Loramie was practicing in the outfield only when I was there, with lots of running. Guess that's the joy of being outside.... more space to run!

Drove past this morning and the fence looked like it was bent back up. Netting above dugout was not in place. No other details except some progress was made. From what I hear, they are looking at a temporary fix until permanent improvements can be made (replacing with new).

Apparently, a couple of guys took a blow torch and some good ol fashioned hard labor to put it back up. The fence will be fine for this year, but will certainly need replaced for the future. I'm not sure whats going to happen with the netting to tell the truth, but I'll get on that right away...

Loramie is supposed to play AT Fairlawn on the 31st for the first game of the year.
I'm thinking it will be roughly 25-0. Or at least in the ball park of 20 something and under 5.
Just don't see much talent at the Lawn and Loramie is going to be pretty good.

Houston is supposed to play Anna on the 31st but I don't know if that will happen with Anna's basketball run, any comfirmation on that? They play Bethel, Loramie, and Fort Recovery later that week, and could easily be 0-4 after the first week. Talked to Roeth the other night and he said he'd be out for another week or so.

Russia's baseball team has a tough first week as well. After playin JC (should be a laugher), they play Minster who is really good again, Anna, Marion Local, and West Liberty. I'm not sure how good ML will be without Luebke there anymore, but are traditionally a good team. WLS is almost always in the top part of their league and was ranked in the state last year. Could start the year below the .500 mark which isn't a good thing, but against teams like that they can't be too disappointed if it happens.
