What a great trade for the TIggers!!!... Getting Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. These 2 could and should be the missing links to the AL crown. I think I am more excited about getting Cabrera for his hitting than anything.......gonna be a hard out for the rest of the division.
Whats everyone else think about this trade.....

What i'm thinking is why can't the NL teams just keep their great players in the NL...I don't think there is an NL team out there that could go over .500 with an AL schedule...its getting ridiculous...great trade for the Tigers though...I think they just jumped the Indians as the favorite in that division

I don't like it. I don't like it at all. I AM AN INDIANS FAN. But it is a long season and everyone needs to stay healthy, so who knows. Find out next October.

To me this is the greatest trade the Tigers have made in my lifetime. Even better than the Joe Coleman, Aurelio Rodriguez and hard hitting Eddie Binkman trade that sent Denny McLain packing to Washington.
So the Tigers lost some young propects and got a couple of aging veterans in 24 year old Miggy Cabrera and Donny Willis an aging 26 year old. LOL
Trading propects is tough, but when you can pick up a quality pitcher and perhaps the next Albert Pujols you`ve made out big time. Miller and Maybin may turn out to be studs, but with young kids there are no guarantees. Miggy and Willis are already proven although Willis has to bounce back. And sometimes all a player really needs is a change of scenery.
All those years the Tigers were known for their cheap owners and inability to make good trades and now it looks like the good dealings are never ending.
I`m pumped, so pumped I wish spring training started tomorrow, but I know Mr. Dromboksi probably has a few more deals to complete first. So I`ll wait it out for a few months and see what else they can come up with.

By the way, my brother told me today that last night he went to a game with 2 big Indian fans. He said neither one wanted to talk any baseball last night. And that`s all those 2 guys ever do. LOL

Showing your age talking about that trade...lol.( but that was a pretty darn good trade though).and I expected this reaction from the Indian fans....gotta love it.

I was never overly sold on Dontrelle Willis in the first place. I mean he is way to streaky for me as far as how he pitches. Miggy Cabrera, though, he is solid. I think the Tigers gave up a LOT to get them both, but gave up folks that weren't going to be starters for them this coming season (well, maybe Miller as a pitcher, but nothing assured) and will be able to keep Willis and Cabrera a while so that they can reload in the minors.

Not a Tiger fan, but a very good trade nonetheless. For you diehards, be patient with both of these guys. Moving over from one league to the other requires a certain amount of adjustment; especially in defining the strike zone. New hitters for Willis to learn; new pitchers for Cabrera to figure out. It will take time. Fortunately, they will be playing for the best manager in all of baseball.....

I`m so old that I remember baseball when Eddie Brinkman hit .266 at shortstop and people were going crazy because he boosted his average from .187. That`s a boost of 79 points, but man from .187 there`s only one way to go and that`s up. Could you imagine a starting shortstop in baseball today hitting .187?

LOL

Bandido-I remember one time the Tigers were struggling big-time and Billy Martin(?) pulled the batting order out of a hat and Brinkman ended up batting clean-up.

As far as this trade goes-I was a Maybin fan, so I don't really like that they got rid of him...but there was not going to be anyplace for him to play next year in Detroit-so it is a good deal for him personally. How is this for a lineup>>>

Granderson
Polanco
Cabrera
Ordonez
Guillen
Sheffield
Renteria
Rodriguez
Thames/Jacque Jones

I idolized number 6 Al Kaline ........ They don`t make baseball players like Kaline anymore. He was all about class. Kaline, Cash, Northrup, Stanley, Horton, Lolich, Freehan, McAuliffe, Wert and the greatest gentlemen of them all Ernie Harwell. I grew up with these guys. thumbup1.gif

Wally,

You`ve got to love that line-up don`t ya?

It hurts to lose Maybin, but you`ve got to deal something to get something. Here`s how I look at losing Maybin. He`ll be 21 next year while Cabrera will turn 25. Only 4 years of age difference and I`m telling ya Cabrera is one of the best hitters in baseball already. Although Maybin may be a great player someday Cabrera is already there. Maybin hasn`t proven out yet and who knows, there`s no guarantee he`ll be what Cabrera already is.
One thing I believe the Tiger management is doing with it`s players is this, they are selling the city of Detroit to them. They`re getting these players to fall in love with the city and the atmosphere. If they can do that with Cabrera then look out, a happy player is a productive player.
By the way, have you noticed the Tigers are grouping a lot of Latin players together on their team? I think those guys will jell together and keep them in the fold for years to come. At least I`m hoping so.

Thanks for the reminder Zoomer,

But I just thought of something else. The BEST trade the Tigers ever made was "Stormin" Norman Cash coming from the CLEVELAND INDIANS for Steve Demeter. How in the world did a forget that one? Demeter`s career consisted of 15 games with 0 homers 1 rbi and a respectable .087 batting average. While Cash went on to hit 377 home runs over a 17 YEAR career. ........................BTW, the Indians weren`t the Tigers farm club back then were they?
Can you say Lopsided? ..............And thank you very much Cleveland. LOL
