If you don't think you can compete against HN and Vanlue, you should cancel the season.

Maybe it's not the "story" that a certain sports editor..,I mean The Courier made it out to be gauging from the lack of posts.

This decision should have been made weeks ago. They had to know they would be short on numbers. Waiting this long puts other teams on their schedule in a really tough spot.

That will be a battle between two of the worst teams in Ohio. And then Beallsville goes to Marion Local in Week 2.

According to the picture, how can you play with 14 players?

Hahahahaha anytime someone drops football. We're going to blow it all out of proportion. It wouldn't have mattered if it were St. Wendelin or Findlay High School. It's kind of a big deal.

It's too bad this happened this late. All schools facing number issues should know in the spring if they can field a team and have enough players. This only hurts the other teams on the schedule to have to scramble to find games.

Is this long term at FSW? Or are they going to attempt to have a team again next year?

They are going to try next year. Who's going to take the chance on scheduling them though? I have a feeling it will be like a lot of dropped sports in HS and college once it's gone, its gone. We'll see.

Let's face it, this place is pretty dead these days.

Actually it is a big deal. Yes, they've had to discontinue a few seasons, but this is the first season "cancelled". I think it shows the drop of enrollment at a certain school, the lack of interest of the student body at that school, the changing in the culture of football. USV put the halt to football about 10 years ago, took a few years off, came back as a JV program and is now a regular small school varsity program.
I do think it's difficult for private schools because you don't have the year after year student. Kids move so much now in school.

SW should have stayed a JV or non OHSAA participant. Last year was pretty ugly for them.
Always a watchful eyes on those Tiffin Calvert Senecas, Marion Local Flyers, Fort Loramie Redskins , New Albany Eagles.

I would think a JV schedule would be better than nothing at all. Any of the underclassman on this year's team is a wasted year. Going to make it very difficult to have a team next season.

The only problem with USV is they were forced to forfeit a season in the middle of an ongoing season. Props to them for not trying again for a couple of years, but that year(2001 I believe) was handled all wrong.

For an example of the right way to handle this situation, look at Antwerp. They knew this year was going to be EXTREMELY tough on them because their upper classes were pretty much bare(but they had a decent sized freshman class). So they cancelled the 2015 season before the 2014 season even started and plan on coming back whenever their numbers are back up (I believe the plan is 2016, but I don't totally remember).

It's not like this is the first time St. Wendelin has run into problems, but to cancel a season in August when the first game is at the end of the month?

I was at that game. USV was in the NWC then and was supposed to play at DJ. With no disrespect to the effort of their players, those teams were really, really awful. Lima Perry was in the NWC then and struggled mightily and they would paste USV. To give perspective, Ridgemont was awful then too. Ridgemont beat USV 76-0 that year. 7:30 showed up in Delphos and the fans were in the stands, including the dozen fans from USV, but USV's team never even left USV's school and didn't notify anybody. They were "booted" after that although they kind of just backed out of the conference anyways as it was their only choice.

I will say their program is far more competitive and successful now than what it was then and the NWCC is a better fit for them at this time.
