WBL Prediction Contest, Week 5
#1
Posted 18 September 2016 - 10:14 PM
(2-2) Celina at Defiance (1-3)
(4-0) O-G at Shawnee (1-3)
(0-4) Van Wert at Kenton (1-3)
(4-0) St. Marys at Elida (2-2)
Game of the week: St. Marys at Elida. It's starting to look like St. Marys could really challenge Wapak for the top spot, and Elida has a couple close losses to some good teams. Another loss could eliminate Elida from playoff contention.
Last week: Tough week. The consensus went 3-2, 13 people had that, only 3 people got 4 right. There were no perfect picks, and a whopping 4 losing records, with the 1st 1-4 record of the year. With 20 people making picks last week, no one dropped from the all-week list, but there were no new people either. Probably not a lot of movement in the standings, but Maltese Falcon tied me for first place. There were 2 unanimous picks:
O-G over Celina 20-0 (win)
Bath over Defiance 20-0 (loss)
Wapak over Elida 17-3 (win)
St. Marys over Kenton 17-3 (win)
Van Wert over Shawnee 16-4 (loss)

(2-2) Celina at Defiance (1-3) Maybe Defiance got on track? naa
(4-0) O-G at Shawnee (1-3) OG should win big
(0-4) Van Wert at Kenton (1-3) yea
(4-0) St. Marys at Elida (2-2) This should be a pretty good game. Elida is better than the record shows.

(2-2) Celina at Defiance (1-3): I read in the Crescent that Defiance was missing a ton of players due to suspension/injury but they still pulled off the win. Celina should be talented enough to beat Defiance. Kevin Kline is a tremendous coach and did unreal things at Bryan. I'm curious how long it's going to take him to turn the corner at Defiance because I have no doubt he will be able to.
(4-0) O-G at Shawnee (1-3): Shawnee wins last week but OG will prove to be way too much for them to handle. Congrats to Shawnee for doing what many thought they couldn't do this year - win a game.
(0-4) Van Wert at Kenton (1-3): Kenton is not as good as many thought pre-season and I'll predict a 5-5/6-4 season for them this year. Another disappointment under Fackler. Is his seat getting warm at all Kentonians?
(4-0) St. Marys at Elida (2-2): SM, while beating up the weak teams the first three weeks, blew out what appears to be an overrated Kenton team. That result did shock me. I'll be very excited for the SM v Wapak game.

This is Kenton's remaining schedule - Van Wert, at Shawnee, at O-G, Elida, at Bath, Celina.
Not trying to be difficult, but I was just wondering where the four wins are to get to 5-5. Kenton looks closer to 3-7 than 5-5, in my opinion.

ACTUAL DIALOG ON THIS SITE
Anyways:
I think they beat VW, Shawnee, Bath, and Celina at a minimum
I think they CAN beat Elida

Kenton has only beat a very bad Defiance team. They might beat Shawnee and Van Wert but I really don't see them beating any of the other mentioned teams, especially Elida. Wapak Elida were very close. Wapak whipped on Kenton.

Not technically completely true. They had a big 2nd half of 300 yards and 4 td but it was a 3-3 game at the half and Kenton defense played well in that stretch.
3-7 I would say is a real possibility for them.

They are playing well against some AWFUL teams ... let's temper the enthusiasm a bit. You beat Wapak you can talk.
Week 1: You beat 2-2 Sidney who has wins against 1-3 Carroll and 0-4 Xenia
Week 2: You beat 0-4 Van Wert
Week 3: You beat 1-3 Shawnee who beat the winless Van Wert team
Week 4: You beat 1-3 Kenton who beat the 1 win Defiance team
So your four wins come against teams with a combined four wins
You are lucky Sidney is a D2 school to get you any points.
While I'm not saying you won't have a great season and won't make the playoffs or anything (you should do both) let's just not get too crazy. Your final two games are against OG and Wapak. If you don't go into those games 8-0 the season is a failure.

(4-0) O-G at Shawnee (1-3)
(0-4) Van Wert at Kenton (1-3)
(4-0) St. Marys at Elida (2-2) Elida played tough vs. Wapak. Has St. Marys been tested? Going with my heart on this one.
